12v out of a generator

I have a friend in the generator business that called me today about a 5.9 motor. It's in a '89 Cummins generator that has the inverter blown out. The motor runs great with only 220hrs on it.

I don't know much about 12v's so my question is..... is this motor something that can be used in a truck and if so, is 1K a good price for said motor ?

It probably won't have any accessory drive stuff on it, possibly odd water outlets, and the injection pump may have a weird governor on it, but the long block should still be a normal 6bt.

Probably not the best for swapping into a truck, unless you have all that stuff laying around off a bad engine.

Offer $750. No more than $850ish.

The governors in them may are different and usually have a 10mm head and rotor. Cummins truck pumps have 12mm.

In VW terms, 10mm caps out at 250ish hp. 12mm is 400ish.

ok, thanks for the info guys. I have no interest in it. He asked me to see if there's anyone that may want it but, with what's been said he'll probably just scrap it. He figured at least $600 in scrap metal.
