The Dmax motors will go anywhere, and fit where a Chevy went
The Jet Boat is a neat boat, but sucks fuel. I believe that a Dmax motor will breathe new life in to this boat

Oh look. A neat idea and Greg already was asked to do this before you even thought of it. And like Greg it's all DMAX DMAX DMAX. Not because he sells the parts for them. No he didn't read the OP.

If he doesn't think he can get a 4bt, he isn't getting a duramax.

Greg's been kicked off at least 2 Cummins 'race programs' (Dr. Performance and the gray Common Rail), so after the Duramax, it'll be all about the Powerstroke, Powerstroke, and maybe a Powerstroke.
 
I have a pair of water manifold for the Dmax. Working with a boat builder to develope a diesel for the boat application. The problem with the Cummins is it just doesn’t fit, it’s too tall and too heavy. The boat people want something to replace the 502 . The 4BT is destructive in it vibration problem. I know that GBE did a deal for UPS on these motors and destroyed two dyno’s from vibration.

In a boat application active timing is a must. You will need instant throttle response and this come from static compression, and big intake events. The torque will have to be managed in the lower RPMs to use this much compression. Smoke shows on the water are even more regulated the street. You will have to run water thru the manifolds and out the exhaust.
The neat part of boats is unlimited water for the intercooler.

But your just butt hurt because I am getting funding and parts, some of it from the same company’s for the last 10 years. You continue to tell the lie hoping people will believe you. Im not really interested in running a dmax for the money i would have to put into one. And since i havent heard of anyone putting a cummins into one of these boats yet it is really starting to interest me if i can make one work. May be one of the only times i would run a big chrome stack. LOL

If you really want to put a cummins in a boat m then use a shollow wide pan so the motor will be low enough to match the pump. I would use a VE pump with timing advance

the rub will be that a good pump designed for the torque curve of the motor would be fairly expensive. you could use the gearvendor over drive , but that is not cheap eather. nothing to do with a boat will be inepensives
 
The engine will be out of my truck, so i can swap a stock engine back into it and actually use it again. Can a pump be sent off and rebuilt to specs that are needed?

If you already have the jetboat, check the dimensions for the centerline of the jet drive to the inside of the bilge area of the boat. Obviously, any engine you put in there needs to be able to fit without cutting a hole in the hull for oil pan clearance.

Most of the commonly available "jet boat" high capacity oil pans for BBC's and BBF's are very boxy in shape (not very deep but usually pretty wide).

If you can get a Cummins to fit in the engine well, you may want to consider more of a "Daycruiser" style boat with deeper sides, as compared to a low-profile hull design.

If you decide to go for it, please post plenty of pics.

In your neck of the woods, Duane Oblander at Hi-Tec Performance (Fayetteville, AR) is THE MAN when it comes to building/rebuilding/rigging jet drives and boats.
 
I've been doing a little research on all of the projects I have been thinking about. So far this one will be the most technical. I'm sure I'll start a build thread of whatever I end up doing.
 
I'm not at all familiar with the set up, but, the transmission company (B&J) I've been speaking with lately has a transmission for jet boats.

With a transmission tucked between the engine and out drive, you wouldn't have to worry to much about rpm's and such.

so B&J are making an overdrive box. The unit pictured above is from gear vendors

My apologies, I just checked their site and it did not say anything about boats. I did see one but it must have been on one my google searches. I don't think it was an overdrive. I would say they over propped the thing and then used the lower trans gears to overcome this.
