Here is another video from my GoPro. I love these videos because I love the sound of this engine.
I agree, it sounds awesome!

I was told this weekend that mine doesn't even sound like a 855 anymore.

ha ha that's great.

I remember when my dad first started pulling, he only had the screws taken out of the pump and 5" straight pipe stacks. We were at a pull and he was waiting in line to hook, and some guy ran up to him and asked what was in the truck for a motor. My dad told him a 3406 Cat and the guy wanted to argue with him, said it didn't sound like a Cat.

Yeah, I think it's a combination of my turbo, ported heads, and 7" single that does it. The best I thought it sounded was with the dual 6" pipes and stock HT3B.

Mine didn't really change sounds with the HT60 so much. It doesn't even really whistle like I thought it would. The injectors really changed the sound, if anything. But I don't really like how it idles with the big injectors.

But I love how throaty and raspy this engine is. That's what I like most about it. But I think the single 5" exhaust gives it a lot of the throaty and raspy sound it has.

Sounds a lot like the straight piped Mercedes motors on my neighbors Claas chopper

I rebuilt the engine harness on an MBE in a claas chopper. One of the dumbest things Ever. The hard armor they used on the harness. Non-split black loom. Litterally DESTROYED the wires inside...... Back ordered indefinitely. Had to be made from scratch in Germany. Middle of the season. That was the wrong answer.

Mechanically they've been amazingly simple to work for us, but as far as I know they haven't touched electronics on his

Thanks bud. Its been a bit of work getting it where it is at and there's much much more to go!

I don't think those Claas choppers sound anything like my 855. ha ha But boy what I would give to run one of those things. That has to be one of the coolest jobs there is!

I want to play farmer some day.

It took me two days of off and on reading but I read every page of this thing. It's been a blast to follow where you started to where you are now. I would be beside myself if I had the chance to get a good deal on one of these old A models. I've always loved 379 electronic motor trucks but there's nothing cooler than a mechanical A model!!! Can't wait to see more updates.

Thanks guys.

We went to two pulls this weekend. Saturday nights pull got rained out but Sunday nights show was a go. I had bought a 2nd used HT60 with a larger 26 cm exhaust housing. When I got it home and tore it apart I found out that it had the smaller turbine wheel on it (96mmx88mm, IIRC), so I couldn't just swap out the exhaust housings. I took the whole turbo apart and checked things out and it all looked ok, so I swapped out the entire turbo. After swapping the turbo and driving it to the pulls this weekend, the engine just seems to be much happier with the larger housing (the previous HT60 had a 100mmx88mm turbine wheel and a 22 cm housing).

I've had plans of trying 5th gear but I have just never worked up the bravery to try. I determined Saturday before we left that I was going to try it at least once this weekend. So before we left I put 45 psi in the tire (I have been running 30 psi in 4th gear and had no problems). 45 psi was just to much air in the tires. I got the clutch out and it just lit the tires and started spinning and hopping. I didn't pedal it because I wasn't sure if the engine would pick itself back up. I didn't hurt the clutch at all and I don't think I hurt my pull at all either. I ended in the same place as always about the same distance behind the rest of the guys. Next weekend I'm going to try letting a little air out of the tires and see what happens.

Videos to come. Hopefully tonight.

I'm not sure it was hopping at all, that looks like the clutch was catching and shaking the cab.

Yes I agree with you. Leaving the hole when the clutch engages it does shake quite a bit. But later on down the track at about 100 feet it hopped a little. Can't tell from the video but got a little rough.

I think in the end I'm having traction problems. I think it's time for a good set of tires....

Went to a great pull last night. Close to home and was a lot of fun.

I was first puller and tried 5th gear. It ended up being to much. So came back and went with 4th gear and pulled 25 ft further in 4th gear than 5th gear.

That is a very exciting group of pullers you run with. Every truck in the last video put on a good show. Your truck has definitely come alive compared to your early pulls. Is your Dad's truck the white day cab Kenworth? Also the distance readout on the sled is pretty cool! They don't have that on the sleds that run around here.

There is only one sled I have hooked too that had the readout on the side, it was out of the London area, was a really good sled to hook too.
