intercooler spacing

What's the maximum distance I can place my intercooler in front of my radiator?

Right now its looking like 2.5-3" away is the closest I can get it.

Do I need to build a shroud around the intercooler to help direct air through the radiator? I plan on shrouding the radiator to the fan already.

The intercooler is narrower than the radiator by about 6", 3" on each side, and I was hoping to leave that open to help with cooling some.

Im also going to have to direct mount the top of the intercooler since there is no room up there, but I can use some type of rubber isolators on the bottom mounts.

Im using a dt466 with the stock fan so that should pull quite a bit, I plan on having the fan less than 1.5" away from the raditator.

Any thoughts on this set up?

Thanks!
