4wd drag race setup

Remove all but 2 leafs from the rear. Helps a ton IMO

From what I found you want the rear to be level, if not lower then the front to help with weight transfer on the nose heavy trucks.

With full leaf packs in the rear I had a lot of problems spinning. With 2 leafs, and the truck lowered more I had very little issue spinning, even with a setup with more power/torque.

How much lowered does everything get when you take all the springs out ? I have no blocks and I sit about level with 1 coil cut out. Although I still need turbos and a few parts on the truck.

If you haven't got blocks yet the factory ones from a f250 are 2" and fit perfect, that's what I'm running. With aired down 420's, no overloads, and caltracs I still can't leave on more than 15psi on the track or it'll spin. I'm cuttin around 1.90-1.95 60' times leaving that easy. I'm in need of new shocks though so I think that's a lot of my problem

4wd?

What's the truck make hp wise, that makes a difference to.

4high and based off of my mph so far I should be around 670-680hp or a little more to the wheels. My buddy has a 01 just like mine with a 12valve swap and twins. He's runnin 35psi in his 420's and a set of trac bars and leavin at over 20psi and is cuttin 1.7x 60' foot times. That's why I'm leaning towards my shocks cause he has new ones and mine are old as dirt. Also I'm only running between 20-25 psi in my tires on the track

Rancho 9000 adjustables are cheap and work well.

Yea that's what I have.

I'm running 420s and cut low 1.6x's on our local crappy track. I could cut 1.70s with old crap shocks and a truck that was 700ish hp though. You need to video your truck launching and see what's it's doing.

I've been tryin to get my friends to video me on the line but they don't pay much attention. Ive got a few from them sittin about half track so it's kinda hard to tell, If I leave over 15psi as soon as it hits full boost it spins then hooks again after it catches 2nd gear. Zack pierce told me he can get me a deal on fox or Bilsteins so I'm probably goin bilsteins since they're a little cheaper. And I might be wrong but I'm wantin to think Calvert racing bought out rancho shocks

Time slip? What is spinning the front or rear?

Time slips are in my truck, I don't have a photobucket but I can send them to somebody if they will post them. At Rudys last week my best time was a 7.99 but didn't get a mph because I had a axle dump and the wind blew my smoke into the traps later I ran a 8.08 or something like that at 89.52mph. Truck weighs 6700lbs with me in it. I'm not trying to lie about it what it makes or anything it really surprised the crap out of me. I used the 1/8th mile calculator on Wallace racing. Also I was only leaving on 15psi and I'm not sure if it's the front or back nobody got a good enough video of me. The truck just picks up and spins a little. My 7.99 run is on my Instagram if anybody wants to see it. It was one of the better videos I could find

Wasn't saying you were lying or the reason I was asking, calm down lol. Was the front end walking around or did the rear feel loose? I was starting to get a bit of both last time at the track.

No offense taken lol. I just know how people get about a vp truck over 600hp. Truck feels solid and holds straight, the way it picks up it really feels like all 4 are spinning but I know that's probably not it. Before I installed my caltracs my buddy's were standing in the water box at my local track and said all 4 were spinning so I don't know. I'm going to get some new shocks for it and try to pull a leaf or 2 from the rear and see if it helps any. If I leave over 20psi on black top I know it spins all 4 and that's really about what it feels like on the track when I leave hard. Also by the way Eric I'm not trying to hijack this thread haha. Our trucks are very similar though so I feel like information about either should help us both out

Do you happen to have 1/4 mile et or mph? I have the same setup except for a 69mm sxe. I've dynoed 656HP and 1261tq.

I think that calculator is a bit off. I just put in my times and it says 753HP with a 7.86 1/8 at 6930lbs. It says 812HP for 91mph at 6930lbs.

No 1/4 yet. There's a 1/4 track about 30 minutes from me in darlington SC I just haven't had a chance to go yet. I was going to dyno my truck at rudys but the dyno tralier left early and there was too big of a line at their shop. I want to get it on some rollers sometime soon. I feel like 680 is a little high for what I have but that calculator is all I have to go by for now

Your all good man. I actually made it to the track and with a light launch and fighting some fueling issues was still able to pull off a 7.98 run. On the launch i spun all 4 like a bastard but i was running max air pressure. Dropping the rear end had a huge help on traction for me though

What was your mph? That's not bad at all still spinning. And yeah with my leveling kit still in the front my front end sits maybe a inch or so higher than the back. It's not much but I want to drop it all the way around another inch or 2 at least

My rear sits low even without the leveling kit. And mph was only 87. Best mph ive had was 89.9 and that was before i was able to get my turbo spooled on the line so truck dodnt really take off until about half track. I wish i could get back to the track but its closed for the year

My truck is 6200-6300lbs, raised enough that I can run 35"s on the street (rear is still higher than the front). I still have full leave springs and stock coils. My only suspension changes are poly bushings in the front and spring clamps on the rear of the leaves. Tires are 10 year old 285/16 Michelin LTXs. On a hard launch of 20psi+, it will spin some, but I can still cut low 1.6s/ high 1.5s. On a soft launch of 15-18 psi, it barely spins at all.

I was at a diesel drag event over the weekend, and was really surprised by how bad the trucks with 420s were spinning. And this was on trucks running mid 11s and higher. After watching some videos of them, then comparing them to the videos that my wife shot of my truck, something was pretty obvious.... there's no squat to the sidewall in those 20" tires.

I air my tires down to 28 front/25 rear, and even with my stiff suspension, my rear end really squats on the launch. It's not from the suspension, it's from the tires. The tall sidewall of a 16" tire allows a lot more flex than the short sidewall of the 20" and 22" tires. That flex allows the tire absorb a little more shock at launch. And when the weight transfers, you can really see how the tread contact with the pavement is lengthened as the tire squats, that really helps with traction.

All you guys running 20" tires and bigger keep this in mind.

I have 22's on my truck but it hooks a hell of a lot better than it did before with 18's. Ive never heard a good thing about 420's which is why i didnt go with them.
