Is a 700 hp 7.3 possible?

This thread makes me think there's something wrong with me. I like my 7.3 better than my first gen back when it was nearly stock. Rides better, more power, but it does get about 3-4 mpg less fuel mileage.

Well, you know... he is is "That Dude".

LOL

:hehe: oh man that's hilarious!

Anyone can spend how ever much they want to their truck though. If you can make it work then more, power, to ya.

700hp is not a $15k time... Find a good forged motor, have some one like Eddie Ingram, Swamps, or heck just anyone who can manage to get some good flow numbers out of the heads (2500 at the most assembled) add a stage one cam from Gear Head ($525), ARPs, some Smith Bros, ($800), add a some 350/200s ($2k), a Gen 3 system ($1400) and a nice S475 or even an S472, you'll have prolly 9 grand including turbo to get there... Just tune it to make power at high rpm and limit Low RPM pulse width to keep the rods in the block.. It'll run mid 12s all day in a 6800lb obs.. And this includes tuning and full fuel system too.

You're forgetting e-fuel, trans, up pipes and mount for t-4/t4i turbo, tuning price more likely live tune at that point, new head gaskets, studs. And some other things I'm probably forgetting

its 2016, 600hp is easy with a 7.3, and not that expensive. its all bolt ons anyone with a wrench set can do and canned tunes.

I did spit a rod out of my high mileage motor about 6 months after the 350/200 s467 went on it
the manley rod, fire ringed, rebuild cost me a little more then just buying a swamps competition package. I am looking hard at swamps cnc'd heads for next summers upgrade

its also a lot more flexible then a 'built' dodge. pick a milder program on the hydra and its a stock truck.
I dont see any 600hp cheap mech 5.9s around here.

Maybe it's more flexible then a mechanical built 5.9. But I bet it's not more flexible then a common rail 5.9.

I finally spit a rod on my stock bottom end, 400/400, stock head gasket, billet s480, two stages of nitrous.
Who cares what platform anyone uses, I just enjoy the old oil fired 7.3. To each his own.

this thread is hilarious. a lot of key points to those who are interested in setting one of these up for the street/ whatever purpose the truck might serve. I have more $$ into keeping my super duty road worthy then making mid 500's. that's why the obs had a 12v in it. street driving 680hp back in 2011&12 was fun. I wish the 7.3 was as cheap and reliable to get it at that level and do the same work while sipping on fuel. now if only the 335d could haul a gooseneck around.

My 7.3 knew when pay day was! Maybe not so much the engine but everything else connected to it and around it... or close to it....
One thing I will say when it comes to running oil it never complained. That was the only reason I delta with it as long as I did. It offset the price if having to fix it because I could fill the tank for around $10 total and a little bit of time filtering.
I would never run oil as fuel in a common rail though!

O rly?

My truck:

Truck- $1800 95 12 valve
Trans- $1800 (3 disc dpc, billet input, rebuild, TFOD-3)
Head studs- $450
Injectors- $180 7x11 from power driven
Short bed- $300
fuel Cell- ~$200 forget the exact money. May have been $180.
Rotors to convert to single wheel- $150
New driveshaft- $250
Compound setup (s362 next to S475 billet 6 wheel)- $1000 turbos+piping
Custom Manifold- $150 (just for the hell of it)

It makes 60+ psi (need a larger boost gauge) and has almost zero smoke. With the purchase of the truck included. That is what? $6280? Take the dually bed I sold for $400 out and I am under 6 grand with the purchase of the truck and converting to a short bed. This is all on the original untouched 375,000 mile engine I will add ;)

I promise you there are more mech 5.9 trucks on this site making 600+ that are driven every day reliably than there are 7.3 trucks by a long shot.

My vp truck did 594 for less than a set of 7.3 injectors, it's my dd too.

the look on a Cummins driver face though when a oil burning ford flies by them is well worth the extra coin to build a 7.3......Love seeing Matt Maiers truck run the 7.70 index for this reason

Haha I don't think that expression is local to Cummins drivers when a 7.3 is spotted running a 7.70 in the eighth. The expression changes though when he idles back to the pit with bent rods in his "high mileage" 7.3. Man I hear that excuse a lot when 7.3's blow up :D

Well... Most haven't seen Zach Peirces truck run 6.90s in the eighth on Fuel only at 7500lbs with basically a precision 2.6 charger.... It's on Youtube... Just fricken sick..

I'm pretty sure its ran 6.7's before and it's goin to be even faster when he gets it back goin this time. Drives it to the track on slicks and drives it back home. Races at rudys then changes tires and pulls with it too. It's for sure one hell of a truck and I think a little underestimated
