Today we got the front pull point and bumper on my daughters truck. Looks pretty good.
On my truck, I got the rear diff back under the truck and after a few false starts with trying different holes on the reverse shackle and with and without the 4" blocks, I have it up where it's going to be, just need to get some shorter u bolts for it tomorrow.

The axle is back in the truck, tightened down, brakes and driveshaft installed. Truck is sitting at ride height now so I can setup the cal traks tomorrow with the right amount of preload. With the shackle flip, I've been able to remove the 4" blocks from the truck, so I'm hoping it hooks better off the line and I get more weight transfer on launch.

After more than a week of being sicker than a dog with 104.2 temps, looking my voice and coughing my head off. I was able to make good progress on both trucks this weekend. My truck is finished. Truck now has 2 driveshaft loops on each long driveshaft. U joint shields on the two visible joints. All the fluids topped off. Tires back on the truck. Shifter mount built and installed to move the shifter up higher and in a better position.
My daughter's truck, I finished welding her exhaust system up. Rebuilt her hei ignition with a msd rev limiter, new cap, rotor, mechanical weight advance. New plugs and wires. Gauges installed and hooked up. Started it yesterday for the first time in months. She was like a little kid in a candy store hearing it run. All I have left on her truck is a new starter, brackets for the b and m floor shifter out of my truck (th350 vs th400) mount differently on the trans. And to set timing and check vacuum one more time.

Finally got both trucks done, 2 days before our first race. Think that's a record. Usually it's the night before or the day of the first race that I get my truck done.
Hopefully no gremlins are found tomorrow on our first race of the season.

No, we run in different classes. She will run in Class 1 (street stock) and Class 2 (Modified Street). I race in Class 3 (Super Street) and Class 4 (Pro Street).
Got them both loaded up this evening on my new 35'+5' gooseneck. Found a water leak on the inlet neck on her truck and a brake line leaking at the caliper on the drivers side. Had to fix both of those before we could get her truck loaded.

Had fun racing today. I ended up only making 1 run instead of the 2 I'd planned on. First run was good enough for 2nd place in my class. Went to make my 2nd run and couldn't build boost in gear. It's either 1st gear or the torque converter. I'm leaning towards the converter, it's been used for 5 seasons now.
My daughter ended up placing 1st and 2nd in her class with her 2 runs. Not bad for her first time racing her truck. She was nervous as hell.

Tested the truck out a little bit after I unloaded it off the trailer today. I'm starting to get convinced it's the torque converter. In reverse, 1st or 2nd, it bogs the engine down and tries to kill it if I don't give it some throttle. I tried building boost in 1st and 2nd with the brake held, nothing just smokes like a train but no boost build. I ended up just taking off in 1st and floor it, it slowing came up and then the turbo lit and off it went like it should.

Well, I sent emails/called Coan, Hutches Transmissions, Hughes Performance and Chance about a converter, waiting on replies/calls from them to see who I feel comfortable and go with on a new converter.

I had my trans built by hutch, he was really upfront and walked me through everything he did. Stand up guy, when its time to be built again I'll bring it back to him.

Hey, good to see ya got her running again. It definitely sounds like a torque converter issue.
I did go back and peruse through you build thread in hopes of finding some weight savings for ya. To be honest, you could cut weight just about every where on the truck. However, as well as this thing is constructed you could conceptually slap a set of tags on it and use it like a modern day pickup. You have performed a tremendous amount of fine work and it shows by the looks and performance you have. I'd hate to see ya take any measures I might suggest and risk the chance of ruining a fine ride.
Congrats on your daughters truck.

Ordered a converter today for the truck from Hughes Performance Transmissions. Now I need to figure out if I want to tear apart the trans and put new wearables in it or have someone do it. I've been into it a couple of times and learning.
checked the pressures tonight at Idle:
Park 160psi
Neutral 160psi
Reverse 150psi
1st 170psi
2nd 170psi
3rd 170psi
Trans Brake applied 145psi
should the trans brake pressure be that low?

Bodacious, yeah the truck could easily be turned into a street truck. Add some lights and put it in 2wd and tag it. I've done little things here and there. I removed the rear frame rail cross member this winter and replaced it with some rectangular tubing that I had in the bed last season to provide support for my battery, water pump and water tank. I dropped down to 1 battery this season and it's working well so far. With the reverse shackle flip, I was able to remove those heavy 4" blocks and another leaf out of each side. That was quite a few lbs there. Those blocks are heavy.
I've look at replacing the front grill/hood with race weight fiberglass components, but some of the orgs/class I run in don't allow that. A lot of things I'm limited too are limits put on the classes that I race in that prevent me from doing it. I'd love to just removed the front and back fenders as they really don't help but collect a ton of mud but it's against the rules.

My trucks weights around 5 to 5400 lbs at last estimate. Been 2 years since I've had it weighted. I've taken away weight here and added weight there with the changes.
