New Drag Truck Build SCLB 4x4 CR

Figured I would start a build thread for my upcoming "winter" project, its a 2005 2500 4x4 Cummins single cab long bed I bought yesterday with a bad motor and no transmission or transfer case. I really don't want to cut up my 03 QCSB because it a pretty nice truck, so I have decided to put the 03 back to stock-ish and sell it. Then I will use the performance parts to put in this truck, and have a lighter, cheaper, drag truck.

I don't have the money to maintain/compete with a Super Street truck so I will just build it to race locally in our 7.0 index class and the 10.90 NHRDA class.

That's a nice truck to start with for sure. Do you have a weight you'd like to end up with it? Light as possible or somewhere in the middle?

Man, I really dont know. I love my air conditioning so I want to keep all that for now. I will cut the bed out and put a fuel cell in it with a cage. I just dont want to gut the interior at the moment. I dont know what it would take to get it around 5500lbs, but I think that would be ideal for what I want to do with it.

The truck will be primarily raced in index classes, so I really dont have to go all out with the weight savings, even though it would be nice to go fast with less power and breakage, i think I can do what i want with 900-1000hp which is pretty dependable nowadays with the right parts.

Having an interior that clean and together, I would refrain from touching it. Power can be made to offset the little extra weight old man comforts.

Nice find on the truck.

I will still cut the bed out and all that, but taking out the AC in South Texas is a pretty big deal. LMAO

My truck is pretty well gutted, no interior, cut out bed, shelled bumper, etc and it still weighs 5850lbs (me in it) with no weight added and no ice in the intercooler. When it was a 10.90 truck with single turbo it was around 6700lbs with nothing gutted, just a roll pan.
Just keep that weight in mind for how much power you need to run 10.90's.

Damn, I was hoping for a little less weight than that. My 03 QCSB weighs 6680 (with me ~250lbs) 1/4 tank, tailgate, roll pan, no hitch, no back seat and one battery.

This is damn true.

But it's a great excuse to use so people won't ask to borrow your truck.

Who's going to building your transmission?
