'02 Dual Alternators

Got a '02 F350 7.3l with Dual Alternators. How ar ethgey regulated? Are both contributing all the time or just one unless heavy load? The lower alt seems to be squeeling and i was hoping it was something that a guy could just reomve the Idler and install the shorter belt on and not have any issues. Since their is no need for dual alts on this truck.

Also remove the positive lead that goes to the battery and tap up the plug and tuck it away.

really stupid question can i take it completely off after i get all the wires taped up
