When selecting a so-called "Shift-Kit", I strongly urge folks to call the kit maker and tell them exactly what you're doing with the truck.
You may be surprised as to how they steer you (a good thing).

Why do you say that? Is it due to pressure adjustments or shift firmness? I know these transmissions don't like it behind a Cummins when made to shift very harsh.

In my conversations with the techs at TransGo, I was informed the typical shift-kit they offer for our diesels (TFOD?) is not really intended for a drag-racer. The kits are more about altering the existing shift qualities (shift speed, gear overlap, engagement speed, etc).
They can tell you better than I.
Just call them.

So, if you have a 518/727 trans you're in. I'm out.

Sounds like he's using the lock-up solenoid to "electrically" apply reverse
It would work great for a high revving gasser, not so great for a low reving diesel with insane torque!

For your DIY budget beaters, call around to the major transmission shops and ask around for used billet input shafts. Ive got one headed my way for 150$ with a tiny slight twist.
No im not pulling your leg, I really did say 150$. Goooooo get em boys!

I think I would take my chances with a new factory one. Either there is a defect in the one with a twist or it has had some power put to it.
Remember the folks that say their input shaft broke while they were just driving down the road? Someone then asks, "what were you doing yesterday in it?" "Oh beating the tar out of the truck drag racing!"

To me it isn't worth the $150 because if it is twisted that tells me it is ready to break. I'd rather spend the money on a good one and be done with it.

For the cost of the converter and input I wont be out a whole lot if it breaks. (250 bucks for billet input and billet single disk)
Im pretty excited to see how it works. They guy said if you looked at it not looking for any problems you cant tell.

What if it wipes out the pump? They aren't supposed to twist, if it has twisted, then either it is defective, or has been tweaked thrashed on. There is a reason someone else pulled it out.

Not everything needs a reason, transmission was getting pulled most likely to be upgraded and they found the shaft had twisted a little. So it got replaced just to be safe. Thats the story on every twisted shaft that I have found so far.
We shall see how it works, I'll post up if it breaks and you can tell me you told me so.

Well they obviously didnt feel it twist and say "oh i gotta get a new billet input now" No reason meaning transmission was just fine, then they made a reason to swap it out, when they found the twist.
Blah, I dont like arguing with you!
