What state is he in? Asking because here it can take months to get an appointment, the inspection is almost the same as an out of state inspection for a car but they make a big deal about a truck. Takes like 5min but only a few places do them and only by appointment.

He lives on the east side of Columbus Ohio. Says the inspector lives like a half mile from his house so getting him to do it is no problem. So i don't know if that is true or not.

Pulling a Ism and putting in a 5ek. Got a 70 pin dash harness, will the cab be wired to just plug and play or will it have to be re pined? Truck is a 06.

Is the dash harness for a 379? Do you have the 40pin conversion harness?

Yes it is for a 379. Got the the 70 to 40 and then the glider link to run the gauges.

Then yes it should work.

I hate those glider link’s. Going to be a nightmare in a few years when they start to fail and no one makes them anymore. Almost cheaper to convert the engine to 70pin. Never seen one running that link that didn’t have some issue, mainly with the fan.

I used one last summer on a truck I took a mxs out and put a 5ek in. Other than the switch is backward he hasn't had any issues yet, but the 70 to 40 adapter had a fan override break out built in to it.

Just had one here guy pulled an SDP out and put a 5EK in, said he regrets his decision. Did it because he broke a rocker and shot the roller through the side of the head. Trying to understand trucker math makes my head hurt. The harness for the conversion cost almost the same as the head would have.

Lol just heard today in order to fill an order for 11 gliders it took 25 N14 cores to come up with 11 “good” ones. Spun bearings galore.

As long as people try and lug them that will continue to happen, no one learns.

I didn't know there was any Cummins you could lug? Maybe a K Series, never been around one.

I always run them like a Detroit...slam your hand in the door before you took off so you were good and mad and wound them tight.

None of that matters, it’s whatever some guy on the radio says. And fuel mileage is all that matters, piss pound main bearings so you can get .0002 mpg extra is king.

I wouldn’t even lug the Ks to what the N14 was recommended to run at, but a KT is still a short stroke engine for its displacement.

855 based engines issue with lugging stems from the long rod, it’s great for high rpm but not lower engine speeds.

Drivers arent lugging cause of what some tool on the radio says, or what a brochure says. Its just that shifting is hard...

Some but Rick’s boss was telling him to keep RPM down because he swore that’s why his mileage sucked. But yea that’s a big downfall of giving drivers HP, they don’t have to shift so they don’t and things go bad.

Makes sense, pretty much exactly what I've seen in the ag world with the big "truck" engines in 4wd's. Of course I've never had a problem with a V8 in a tractor either ...

Silly me, thinking that letting an engine turn and be happy versus dragging it's ass off all day might actually net better economy?
