If you use tapatalk and have your notifications turned on, when I @dixon700 you, you should get a notification that you were mentioned in a comment. Basically a way to say "hey @person, look at this".

Hashtags (#) are irrelevant for the time being here, but they are an alternate search feature on some social media sites.

Hash tags are relevant to social media sites, but hold no value on any SEO. People that constantly Hash tag a company or product will create viral hash tagging at it's finest, but still no value or equity to any website.
