Went ahead and redid fuel lines , now pushes fuel through filters.

Can anyone recommend a turbo for this 12v/6spd?

How well does a HE351cw work with the ppump? Is it going to be too hot at ~450 hp? I have one on my 79 VE motor with 6x13 injectors and seems to clean it up decent.

After hauling a couple heavy loads of oak I think I need some more top end.

I ran an HE351CW with some turbine housing work on my 24 valve at ~500hp and it was a blast. Very responsive, pretty clean, and ran really cool unless I was getting after it. You'll be hard pressed to find something that spools quicker aside from a VGT or possibly an S300G, all of those options will be about maxed out at your power goal though.

Thank you.

I like the HE351 however I'd lose my factory Jacobs exhaust brake.

Has anyone found if the Jacobs brake has an effect on hp/egts? It seems that it's fairly restrictive being in a stock style 3" elbow.

I have thought about building a 4" brake/butterfly that would adapt to a HE351cw but I'm not sure if the Jacobs vacuum canister would still have enough power to close a 4" valve.

I'm open to suggestions but I need to keep the cost down.

I don't see why the vacuum canister wouldn't have enough power to close a 4" valve, with the butterfly being in the middle of the exhaust flow it will have equal pressure on either side so it shouldn't take anymore power to move than a 3". Another option would be to buy/make an HE351 to HX35 flange adapter and run it on there, I can't see the 3" elbow being anymore restrictive than the HE351s tiny exhaust housing.

I have a S300G, it spools slower than a 351.

Following up, picked up a set of 7x.010 sac injectors and it runs much stronger all around and seems cleaner at idle.

Reading up on 7 hole injectors in 12v's, some say they don't jive well with a ppump - at higher RPM? Will this be noticeable under 500hp compared to a 5 hole?

They seem to run well but I haven't had much time with them yet. Still need to sort out my cam/crank sensor setup to get it charging reliably.

Had the truck out for first time this year,

Its better than before, but low/midrange is LAZY. It does wake up on top, but seems my VE truck fuels harder overall.

So its got me wondering just what pump this engine has. Will try to get some #s off of it today.

Anyone have experience with these engines out of Freightliner stepvans? Possibility of being an 11mm pump?

Was reading about some DV changes waking up these non dodge 160s also.

Too much old paint on tag to be able to get #s off pump but it is an 1815 cpl engine. Were pumps specific to engine cpls?

Should have took #s down when engine was out, lesson learned.

Modified my throttle linkage a bit to get faster travel at pump side lever, which helped substantially. Linkage is a 24v apps running the fedex truck throttle lever and wasnt giving enough travel per pedal input.

Ive tried all sorts of Gov spring adjustment and seems i just cant find a happy spot.

Even at only two hard clicks idle is still weak, and needs throttle to start. (Yes idle speed is reset properly at each gsk adjustment) It did not need throttle prior to gsk install.

Has anyone else ran into issues with TS/Peak gsk?

Haisley 5k kit live up to the hype? Just dont want something that could be even touchier than it already is.

Seth's 5k gov springs have been awesome in my pump. I set them up as his directions stated and never had to touch them again, they're not much more touchy than any other 12V I've driven.

I never ran this engine while it was stock so I have nothing to compare it to.

The vp/24v was able to pretty much idle off in 2nd gear, with a strong start from a stop.

Should this 12v be able to do the same? It seems to 'fall under itself' while taking off in 2nd, with a good amount of throttle to get it going, and from ~1/4-3/8 throttle and up it takes off strong. If I lay into it harder it does fuel. ( good puff of smoke)

I'm wondering if I need to tweak the gov springs, I used a TST kit and the stud protrusion was in spec. Has anyone ran into this before?
You wont be able to get the same low end drivability that you had with the VP, but you wont have to worry about a death code again.... pretty good trade off IMO

Yeah its a damn good trade off.

Guess im just trying to set it up as good as i can.

There does seem to be an issue with gov spring setup though, unless this is just the nature of aftermarket springs/manual trans

Seth suggested taking .020 off the bottom of gov spring seats.

It made quite a difference, able to pull off in second much easier and gear changes are much more seamless. Theres probably some fine tuning to be done but i am surprised at what a difference it made.

Still have a light spring on throttle and the bucking is significantly cut down.

What do you have your idle at? I used to have mine set to 750-800 and it needed throttle to start. Set it to 850-875ish and its much better.

The stock cam makes it a pig down low. I put in hamiltons little cam and its now as responsive as the cpu trucks.

No tach currently but Ive had it at various settings without much change. It will start without throttle just takes a few more revolutions.
