1/4 Mile Pass on the Dyno???

Has anyone tried a simulated 1/4 mile pass on the dyno? Today during final preparations for the NHRDA World Finals, we strapped the Junker on the dyno with the 33x14.50 drag slicks.... and it was a blast!!!!

If there was a big screen to show the moving surroundings, it would feel a lot like a real 1/4 mile run. The seats still smack you in the back violently on the locked shifts and everything! Up over 115 MPH, the rear started drifting back and forth a little just like real life with a 2wd on tall drag slicks.

What's best, is with proper strapping, it will hook 15 psi boosted launches with those 1.6 second 60' times and "feel good" about yourself 10 second passes at 125+ MPH....

The only downside is we can't get it back-half like normal trap speeds we see at the track, we assume this is because there isn't enough cooling over the air-air charge air cooler with the dyno fan (it's hard to replicate 100+ MPH wind!!!) but the 1/8th mile trap speeds were right in-line with real life!

So I pose the question, who's playing with "simulated" 1/4mile passes on the dyno? I didn't think to shoot a video before we finished the dyno session, but maybe after World Finals this weekend, we'll start a new wintertime Dyno Racing League or MDRL for short (Mountain Dyno Racing League) or (Mustang Dyno Racing League).

We tried one back in the day on the '97 dually that was my first project for Diesel Power, and it seemed dang close. It was only mid 15s, but I remember we were able to do a boosted launch on the dyno with no traction issues as much as the brakes would hold anyways. It was fun!

I've done it. I strapped up in the harness and put on a helmet. Really crazy seeing the front straps lay down on the ground as the truck climbs over the roller on shifts.

I don't make it a habit as I'm getting more cautious in my older age.
