99 FL60 mutt/conversion/repower project build

Assuming you went from what ever a hx35 was to a 300 with a 68 wheel.. guessing driveability improved?

Probably start small and go bigger if needed..
I would thing I could move a used s364.5sxe with a .83 T4 gated housing fairly easily

No, never went from a 35 to a S300 with a 68 wheel. Did go from the 65mm and 71mm turbine S300 to a 68 wheel and noticed the big jump from the 71. The 65 always drove great, but you gave up some top end.

Chris

Turbo should be in next week.. SXE 362/68 waste gated t4 housing.. with hx40 flange.. PDD guys did ~550 on a 5.9.. should not have problems getting ~450 with 8.3..
Got offered some 5*.014 8.3 injectors get those coming as well.

Stock charger is a H1C 57/83 comp wheel idk the turbine spec yet.. I'm going to a 61.5/88? Wheel with bigger 76/69 turbine That's in the S362sxe charger.. it flows more than the GT4088R I have on my LMM.
Ordered new air bags for the rear,
Turbo should be in 5th,
Rear differential is assembled need fluid, 5gals on 75/90 synthetic gear 178.00 for 20qts just under $9.00qt
Got 5gal on 50w synthetic for the trans
Should have the 8.3 evicted from the donor truck tomorrow, down to mounts, clutch linkage, driveshaft shifter
Need to figure out where to mount rear side of the block

Which sensor is coolant and oil pressure.. one at the rear has one prong the one in the front has 2.. uneducated gues the rear is ECT and front is EOP

Anyone got the timing cover plug fill tube thingy trying to dump ~40qts through the valve cover is going to be a PITA

Somewhat successful weekend
Still need to swap trans, get new clutch, turbo, fix couple things, convert to -8/-6 supply/return lines, delete OEM fuel filter, check lash, AFC adjustment, pump timing, Delivery valves, injectors, and maybes some paint before it gets too cold

So injector return goes into fuel supply instead of pump return? Doesnt make sense... Anyone got an explanation for that?

As far as I know, you can plumb injector return anywhere that is not a pressure line, and either returns to the tank or in this case back to the pump. The pump return may have too much back pressure, and they plumbed it to the fuel in to save an extra return line to the tank. If you use an electric lift pump, you need to move that.

That's plumbed the same way as my 96 12V factory lines, although it is physically different. It's done to retain some residual pressure on the case drain line.

Found a check valve in the injector return line banjo bolt.. which I would guess the return line pressure is substantually more than lift pump pressure after the injector fires or lift pump is timed to return dumps when the lift pump is in suction stroke...

Yeah it's all coming off.. idk if the 8.3 is strong enough to suck/push fuel through a 14m fuel water and a 2m fuel filter will supplying fuel for ~500hp at the crank.. I don't want to find out the hard way..
From what ive gathered I need a lift pump capable of 40-45psi ~150-160gph
Found out all the banjos are metric.. so much for easy lol

From various shops and knowledgeable guys I've talked to.. I "should" have a 12mm pump.. tag states 11mm though 11/13 mm pumps weren't uncommon.. figured I'd yank injectors and pump drop off at Columbus diesel supply and find out what I have. At minimum I'll have a starting point, clean balanced everything..

I don't see why to go away from the stock lift pumps. I woudknt run anything electric on an over the road truck

from what I have read the stock 8.3 cant move enough fuel at pressure to support ~500-600 hp at the crank, combined with the filtration I'm going to be running, that little guy isn't going to cut it that going to be a PITA filter to find on the road.. I sure don't want to find out the hard way... my name isn't ryan.

the fuel lab I put on my lmm has been working nicely

No way in hell I'd run an electric for what you're doing...I would think it would take less fuel to make 500hp with an 8.3L that it would a 5.9L...I would run the stock one and try it ...not like you'll be going on a 2K mile trip on your first run out with the new setup...

Every electric pump I'm ever ran has failed, except a holley blue and a Walbro 392...neither of which will handle what you need. I haven't tried a fuel lab, but I wouldn't trust a Airdog or FASS anymore, Junk IMHO.

IMHO,
Chris

I've gone through a few electric fuel pumps.. including airdog which went up in smoke on me., Aeromotive, Holley black gearotor, Jegs knock off 130gphs.
The fuel lab 40402 is a 160gph does 20psi in reduced power and 25psi at fuel.. WOT pulls psi down about 5-6psi. put it on in feb/March I think.

I'd get a 45psi version of it..

In the pic the lift pump looks the same as the 12valve 5.9, is it or can the 5.9 pump be used if it different? The 5.9 lift pump will supply 500hp all day and I know for a fact, my old work truck was like 550hp on the stock lift pump and I put over 150k miles on it with no problems.

I've wanted to try a fuel lab but haven't had a reason yet...I bypassed the fuse on my old Airdog Raptor and it's been running for 2 more years.

As long as you've had good luck with them, put a regulated return on the p-pump and roll.

I would still run mechanical at 500hp if it were mine though...big lines everywhere and call it good.
Chris

The verdict is still out on the fuel lab then?

I like them, I've seen return line fuel temps upwards of 185° on my LMM while in the South this summer ,plus what ever the sun heats the fuel tank up to.. it's still kicking with 44,000 in it thus far.
I have the 40402 on my LMM it's rated at 15# but does 25# with -8 in/out

Clutch is ordered from valair, turbo should be in tonight..
Need to call and see if the 8.3 5*014 injectors are still available..

Do I need to worry about the dowel pin issue the 5.9s have?
