I will say the A5K is a very good charger, but has anybody else ran a 2.8 charger? Most are bushed down, etc. I would think the s400sx3 with the 2.8 wheel could be a very good option, especially if cost is taken into consideration.

Na I didn't watch the Vid I was there but I didn't hear the N2O back fire.....my bad. It seems that it works well for the #2 only guys but not near was well as the N20 guys......no wastegated housing, that would make it that much better or put on it.

Heck even my Bullet doesn't works that great with N20 and normal gate settings.....way too much boost!

Jim

Try a stainless 16cm housing on it!

I'm sure there are a lot of great chargers out there but the A5K has a good track record and a lot of support data. The new A6K will be a little better but I know there are some chargers being tested right now that will also perform well. Mine held up for amost 2 years and I self destructed it testing RPM limits. I know of a common rail 2006 Dodge that just dynoed 687HP on a A5K with a single CP3 and a few other mods. I think the common rail Cummins is the one to watch this year and a A5K seems to work extremly well on them.

Im not saying there isnot anything better out there but it has proven to be a good performer.
But how many chargers were used to get the championship ?

That is very impressive!
The thing to watch for though as said before, a dyno won't load a truck for the amount of time that a sled pull will. You might not experience the same rail pressure issues on a 5 second run as you will on a 20 second run.

Everytime I hooked to the sled I always 5-10% more boost than I saw on the street.

Sleddy picked too easy of criteria to prove. The a5k setups have been honed to perfection over the last few years. How much more HP do you think is in the a5k?

They were alot of other pulls that they didn't make top 5. Or maybe its the Duramax and the Alllison that are making that turbo look good?

I think its a fine turbo, but Tomacs statement, was abit too broad!!!!Sort of like the "year of the Duramax' we've been waiting for.

The Chevys are doing well, and have some impressive wins, but I do not see the domination that was predicted- for 3 years now.

Tomac, Ric, Tony- have you guys peaked? Or do you have more for us?

We have tested and have kits available now for the NEW turbo we now have. It is a K31 with a DUAL WASTEGATED exhaust housing. It has a T4 flange so you will need a ATS T4 manifold which we have instock. The kit comes with Intake Piping, Air Filter, Boost Outlet Piping, Hoses Fittings Etc. It has very good street manners. Very close to a Silver Bullet but does have a small bit more comp. surge due to the larger turbo. The turbine housing is small enough to give great spoolup but the dual wastegates keep the turbo from over spooling. Excessive turbine speed is why most K31 turbos fail. It takes out the thrust and then the rotating assy. contacts the housing. Dual wastegates will go along way to fixing the excessive turbine speed. We are very excited to see your response to this turbo. I had a hard time taking mine off and sending it to Barry at NADP. It was the first copy and he could see the benefit that it would give him. Thanks, Brady II (K31 is a 2.8 inducer)

i dont really like the fact of wasting exaust through a double waste gate bacause the shaft is tooooooooo small. An s400 takes longer to spool but who cares when its just for sled pulling you have all the time in the world to spool it after that its just a matter of stayin on top of it.

There are a handful of us Duramaxes that are consistantly in the top 5 and winning pulls left and right. But we can't be everywhere. There are still far more Cummins pulling than Duramaxes. But there is a higher percentage of Duramaxes placing and winning pulls and they're almost always running the A5K. There would be alot more Duramaxes in the winners circle. But there are several Duramax pullers out there that are trying to reinvent the wheel for the street class instead of going with a proven setup.

To clarify my quote: "The A5K is the charger to beat in the 2.8 classes (if bushings are allowed or not). Yes I was only thinking of a Duramax when I made my quote but... How many top Cummins pullers in the 2.8 class are NOT running a bigger turbo bushed down?

I can't speak for Tony and Rick but my truck isn't tapped out yet.

where would this sport be with everyone going with a proven setup? why not try to find something else that might work better. whats the proven setup?

good call... if you never try anything new then you will never know if there is something better and a wise old man once told me there is always some thing bigger and badder nomatter what you have... if you build a truck this year pull it all season and never get beat you can bet that if you dont change anything your going to be beat next year.

Talked to DHRA and NAPM in the last few weeks. They told me that they will not allow any plugs at all. We do have a turbo we call our Mega Shaft it's made out of a S400 frame and works very well also. Also my turbo dept. has been successful taking a Stock Duramax turbo and installing a K31 comp. wheel and a larger turbine shaft. We have not tested it yet but it does look very good on the surface. Thanks, Brady II

Once these S400's are tuned in, they will run with anything.

k31 wheel in a stock DMAX charger is not legal in 2.5 DHRA. The OD of the compressor wheel has a max limit and I believe the K31 wheel is too large.

NADM allows bushing in the 2.8 class. I assume you meant NADM instead of NAPM. Those were the rules that were just shown a few weeks back though.
