My thoughts are that once bonus checks come out in November, mine is going to a free-spin kit for my '09 Dodge. I'll do all the ball joints at the same time. It's gonna suck, but I'm ready for 2wd low and better econ even if it is .5 mpg more.

Keep posting junk. No one has mentioned Dynatrac that I've seen. What about them?

Hell. I missed that. Thanks. Guess I'll not look that brand or at least call them and see if they have it figured out yet.

I don't think it will work with the Ford unit bearings. They are an inch bigger in diameter than the dodge bearings. I looked up the timkin specs that Rockauto had.

All it takes is custom stub shafts, talked to Branik and they could supply everything.

Machined unit bearings for 35spline stubs

4340 moly 35 spline stubs at 9.4" oal

locked slugs

Around $1200

The only thing I haven't figured out for sure yet is if the stub shaft included is just a stock Ford stub shaft or if any of it is custom. I have a friend who has a Ford SD front axle laying around he's planning on converting his truck to 4wd so when I have time we will tear into it and find out.

Timken SD unit bearings are $173 ea on RockAuto
MileMarker 449 locking hub set is $157 on PartsGeek
Stub shaft yet to be determined $100 to $200 each online

Video describing parts

Video of customers install on his youtube channel though uses the same stub shaft U-joint as stock.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yBNpBiJoIo

http://www.THERAMMANINC.com kit $1700
In the first video he does mention that you just have to swap out the unit bearing on the 09s and up and not the stub shafts.

So I've decided since it's going to be outrageous either way I'm going with a bolt on spindle kit with some upgraded lightweight stuff just for the fact that ultimately it's stronger than any unit bearing hub.

So will this give you a free spin hub still?

With an e locker in the front diff I'll have drive flanges up front like the rear. 2 less parts to worry about breaking.

That's probably the route I'm going too.

And yes there kit will give you free spin still. But I would rather go with the big bearing kits then if it's not saving any money to go with the unit bearing route.

Well I bought a Yukon kit. It's pretty nice and was easy to install. I just recommend to get new u joints. I never can keep from braking them uninstalling them. They do stick out and inch or so. Spacers will fix that problem. But I'm happy over all.

So.....is the Yukon the way to go...what is the general consensus? I think I'm getting close to doing this. The truck needs all new ball joints pretty bad as well.

So I'm confused.........

The Ram Man documentation......

SPECIAL INSTALLATION NOTES  For RAM 4500, 5500, remove the thick wear washer from the stub shaft.  You will not use the large flange nut, save it.  In an emergency your original parts may be used. Save them.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DUALLY (DRW) OWNERS – PLEASE READ!
We ship factory wheel adapters that have been bored 1/10th of an inch, so they fit over the factory locking mechanisms. This allows us to provide locking hubs for all dually owners. This would not be possible otherwise.
YOU MUST SHIP YOUR 2 WHEEL ADAPTERS BACK TO THE RAM MAN OFFICES (as indicated below), WITHIN 30 DAYS OF RECEIVING YOUR PRODUCTS.
IF YOU FAIL TO SHIP YOUR WHEEL ADAPTERS TO OUR OFFICES WITHIN 30 DAYS, WE WILL CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD ON FILE $432.00 (which is the Dodge Dealer Price for Wheel Adapters). BY NOT RETURNING YOUR WHEEL ADAPTERS WITHIN 30 DAYS, YOU ARE AUTHORIZING THE RAM MAN TO CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD $432.00 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE ADAPTERS!

Your cooperation in this matter will help our next customer enjoy the same benefits that you have experienced, with a choice of locked or free spin savings mode.

Not long if you consider fuel, maintenance cost, and tires from it vibrating not to mention the ride smoothness it offers. It's ridiculous that I've had to replace both u-joints up there already in the first 100K and I'd bet the truck ain't been in 4x4 over 1 hour total in it's life. Great design, Dodge.
