New Cummins built 2-stroke

Twin Crank, 2 pistons per cylinder, no valve train, 2-stroke, supercharged.

Designed by Achates, built by Cummins for the military. What do you call it, a 3 cylinder or opposed 6?

Whatever, I want one.....

3 cylinders, 6 pistons? Whatever it is, I like it.

On a side note, do they still use the VT903 today?

Can't get excited without some specs... New, doesn't always equal powerful and reliable.
But it is interesting, to say the least.

Opposed-Piston - Achates

Looks like they're using a screw charger like the Magnusson to control the intake side.

It seems like every couple of years someone comes out with a design like this and it never goes anywhere

I wouldn't say those are comparable to this. In fact the large cargo ship engines are usually 2 stroke

Ok?

I'm talking about a different engine design. They've really been coming out of the woodwork ever since oil prices went up in the mid 2000s.

Commer in Great Britain made those in 60s for light trucks. Dont know if it was success or not, none of the british trucks were up to continental Europe trucks.
