Go over the truck on free time. Lol whenever that is. This winter was busy enough that I used a month to go over everything and little stuff you don’t catch.

If I catch something large that’s about to let go, I will deal with it immediately. I can plan and take a couple days to do it. Maybe loose a couple loads. The other option is it blows on the road and the tow alone costs more than down time would have. I’ve been very fortunate to not be in that position. But it’s bound to happen one day. We do winter/ice roads and travel some remote places sometimes.

Truckers, lets see your rigs!

Are any of you guys cattle haulers? Where do you have signs made for the front peak of your trailers with your name on them?

I see way too many companies that don't account for periodic down time, and when a catastrophic failure happens, it's everyone's fault but their own.

Lol the US dealers are only working on US truck engines. The Maxxforce, Paccar MX, DD13/15 and the world famous Volvo’s are just there for 50,000 mile oil changes.

Volvo dealers don’t even have shops, it’s just bays they park trucks in to admire them for their engineering accomplishments.

Surprised you didn’t know this.

not emission monitoring , just torque reduction and 30 km/h speedlimit when some emission system fails or you drive DEF tank empty. CEL will show but you can drive until you get it fixed or fill DEF. So called emergency vehicle setting, or Russia parameters like I call it.

Been following a couple of US truck groups, Volvo and Detroit, because they have some similarities with our engines. I see that most problems with new emission US trucks are because drivers are idiots , owners are cheap idiots , so lack of maintenance and driver abuse.

No wonder owner operators from Europe do fine financially even if they are buying new US trucks instead of some crappy classic with crappy Cat engine.
They also get good mileage with ELD because they are used to tachographs and know how to use your working time efficiently. A couple of finns who just started in Canada are driving alone same amount than some teams from same company do.

Yea we’re barely getting by here. I’ll just keep running my old junk that doesn’t need the derated turned off.

If Europe is so awesome why are your Finnish brothers coming this way?

That's because until the European cancer took hold, the only maintenance to do was keep fluid and brakes on them. Now the ddecs virtually ask you permission to go **** themselves on the side of the road.
And you're right, and inlet air temp fault shouldn't be able to kill $10k in parts, but again, the European engineering cancer has made it so even the minor flaws cascade uncontrollably.

They definitely don't ask permission to die, they'll make that decision all on their own.

So....how are you supposed to “maintain” a DPF pressure sensor? Or a SCR doser nozzle? Or what kind of preventive maintenance are you supposed to preform on an engine wiring harness? Especially those wonderful european encapsulated harnesses on the Paccar MX that offer no chance of repair and makes installing one a huge pita.

One of the things I play with now.. the aluminum panel is a jetter truck with a 1/2" pressure washer wand and 5/16 tip.. flows ~60gpm at 2200psi
Frameless press-vac tanker with HYD tailgate..
