New 6.70/5.90 drag truck build.

Looks killer. I wish i had half a sense of how to bend tube like you two above.

Is there a how to bend for dummies book that i can read?

Im not sure if there is a book, I just bought a bender and Bend Tech Pro software then started building stuff.

Some of my old projects...

Hehe
Short as hell! Looks like it will load on a 8’ flat bed dually in the current stage.

Haha, it will gain a bunch of size once the fenders and bed sides go back on. The fenders will go another 20" or so past where the frame is cut up front and the bed sides will stick out another 10" past the end of the frame section in the rear.

Im in no hurry to make it any longer, my space is very limited in my little 2 car garage.

Do you incorporate a panhard bar or what keeps the axle straight under the truck? Or does the steering track bar handle that (sorry I'm a Ford guy trying to learn about dodges)

Yes, I will have to build a new track bar and both brackets after the rack is mounted. The Ford and Dodges use a similar design on the track/panhard bar.

Had to turn my heater on.

Man I wish I had those kinds of surprises. That is actually the third member from a Tacoma that I am swapping gears on. I do a few different things on the side to make extra money, one of them is I do all the axle work for Maximum Altitude here in San Antonio.

I got the brackets for the front axle from Jegs. https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/64656/10002/-1?CAWELAID=230006180039228770&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=63996754950&CATCI=aud-295441112107:pla-548264046466&CATARGETID=230006180041391074&CADevice=c&jegspromo=&gclid=CjwKCAiAu_LgBRBdEiwAkovNsGGPj3CVdBGRlRYXkR80TFN3ltBPqGbNrgKxFPG6m5BZAgWLBYsiFRoCgZgQAvD_BwE

I built the front arms using 1.25" .120 wall DOM and the heims, misalignment spacers, and bungs all came from Ruffstuff. https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/RODENDS.html

I used 7/8x3/4" heims (should have just used 3/4x3/4") with 2" wide misalignment spacers at the axle, and 2 3/8" wide misalignment spacers at the frame end. 5/8" bolts in everything. I did have to drill the upper frame side holes from 9/16" to 5/8", and I also had to grind about 1/8" off each side of the misalignment spacer per side so I could utilize the factory mount.

I don't know if there is a special name for it, but I see a lot of guys doing their bar from the 4 link mount on the frame to the front axle shown in the link below. What is the bolt spacing for adjustment on the different 4 link brackets you have? Also, thanks for posting your build, it is looking sweet!

I have seen a few guys using that design, however I am more comfortable with the original type, I just feel like it is stronger and would keep the steering more responsive. Depending how everything looks I may have to do the same though.

I appreciate it.

Got some more done the last few days so I cleaned the garage and took some pictures without crap everywhere. Lol

How much lateral load is put on those R&P mounts? They look less than ideal for resisting side-to-side movement... but maybe the R&P doesn't put much load on them as it pushes the hubs side to side when turning? I know that system is hydraulic, so maybe its fine?

I love seeing all the different phases of the builds. Seriously, thanks so much for sharing. It's super cool to folks like me who've never done or even seen this kind of fab work done in person. Its a means of living vicariously through others.

I still need to box the mounts in, it is more about just getting it mounted and making sure everything else will fit before I do more work that may have to be changed.

I really like build threads also, I studied Lavons and JPs build threads for a while before I started this truck. Hopefully this thread will help someone else, like theirs helped me.

Thank you for the pics of the steering, you answered my question on, How do you configure a steering shaft around the crossmember..? You don't lol.. Full commitment right there. Looks good keep the pics coming.

No prob, I cleaned up the front section of the frame and dropped in my mock-up engine so I can start on building the new front crossmember.

I would probably add some cross bracing where ur rear 4 link and frame meet. Maybe an x of sorts to keep side to side in check. Even with the bars coming off the cage to cross over mounts isn’t gonna b enough I believe but then again I over build stuff
