I get to spend somebody else's money. Advice on parts please

My buddy bought a 92 with a bad tranny for 3k

I just finished the 518 rebuild- pdd 425 kit, shift kit, dpc non lockup converter, servo, billet accumulator.

Truck has a 351 on it.

There's a bd 3200 gov spring in the glove box

He wants a fun street /daily driver that doesn't tow often.

Which size injectors would be on the big side for this turbo ? I'd rather not max the fuel screw out and start losing shut off solenoid tips- the owner is a fabricator/welder and may compound the 351 in he future.

I plan on bumping the timing up a little , playing with the throttle linkage, afc and a Denny t stage 2 pin

Is the hungry diesel lift pump worth it ? Or should we throw a Holley blue on ?

Gauges are on order also.

I'm more familiar with the p pump trucks

I'm running sac 6x13s from THD and really like them With the HE351

Been running a cheapo eBay piston pump with softer spring for 2 yrs seems to work well.

I brought the original spring to hardware store and found a length of spring similar, trimmed it down until it held a steady 18 psi

Pump is just turned to the head, maxed fuel screw, ground stock fuel pin. Stock gov spring still

Getting full travel out of the throttle linkage along with piston pump/3/8 fuel lines gained several hundred RPM

Sweet. The truck was bought with a bad trans, the owner found a bd spring in the glove box. I was planning on doing the pump adjustments, timing, spring, lift pump. From looking at the bolts on the pump it looks untouched. Did you adjust the wastegate to stay shut or spring gate ?

What's the gear ratio on the truck in the vid ?

I did open up the wastegate hole with intentions of adding another turbo, but for now the wastegate line is blocked off. Runs about 45 psi

3:55 gears

And yeah 3/8 lines tank to IP, delete all the factory stuff. The stock banjo bolts limit a lot of flow. I used Cat fuel filters and a sump

They day unless you loctite or stake the front seal of a ve don't exceed 15psi, lift pump pressure. I have been told if the seal is replaced and staked in don't exceed 20 psi. I am currently running THD's piston pump setup . I am happy because I kept my mechanical pump, it was not the cheapest setup around. I have since run across this setup.Click the image to open in full size.

Just figured out you can't read those part numbers.
Pump 3936320
Line 3914753
Spacer 3914284
Gasket x2 3931348
Seal x2 3918191
Should be available from any Cummins dealer.

I would've said a 5x.012 is probably big enough for the HE351. The turbine flows well but that housing is still pretty tight.

As for the plunger in the FSS, take it out and shave the rubber down until you just start to see the steel bushing the rubber encases. Otherwise, there's a gentleman on some of the Facebook groups that is putting brass tips on the plungers. A lot of happy customers.

It's hard to believe I took that photograph going on eleven years ago.

It's my understanding a few of those part numbers have since been superseded.

Well thank you for doing so. Being new to the VE world, this helps. Will be looking up part numbers and ordering soon. My original lift pump failed two months ago and the injection pump suffered. Still runs, but not as strong. Time for a rebuild and reliable lift pump.

I should be ok as long as I don't go crazy with the power screw right ? Bigger injectors would make it so I don't need to crank the fuel screw in as far right ?

If he's honestly thinking about compounds then a bigger injector may be a better choice.

For me the 6x13s aren't too much, lighter truck and sloppy converter, never really loads down that hard(with average driving)

Agreed that 5x12 would be better suited for that truck if staying with a 351
