new here having trans problems

Joined up to try to find answers as to why my tranny quit, but no luck finding any post related to my problem. Not sure which forum to post it in it's a 96 Ram 2500 cummins. I bought the truck with a bad TPS, pevious owner had wired in a pot under the dash to make it work. I put a TPS on it, took it for a short 3 mile drive half way I took it easy and everything seemed perfect, shift points good and smooth. I then dropped to 45 mph kicked it to test for kick down and it dropped to 3rd perfectly, shifted to overdrive at about 65 then the lock up kicked in at about 70. then I lost all gears no movement in any gear. Park does still work. Truck basically stock as far as I know, bought it from an escort service, so doubt any mods done to it, AFC still has tamper proof bolts. Checked fluid after sitting overnight and it was way above full, cranked it up and put it in neutral, let it run for a bit then checked fluid and it was just under the full mark but above the add mark, so pump seems to be pumping. not sure where to go from here any input or a link to any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your time

I don't feel anything, even holding it at 2,000 rpm, no movement of no kind. I crawled under it and had my wife shift thru the gears and didn't hear any grinding or unusual noises, can't say if the cluthches are trying to engage or not, it has a straight exhaust and can't hear if anything is engaging or not, thinking not. All I can feel is the detents of the shifter going from one gear to another.

Thanks for the help

Pressure test it.
I suspect the input shaft broke.

Thanks

I just found another 96 identical to mine except it has power seats and electric mirrors, but it has a bad pcm. Would the pcm out of mine work in it? Should I do any sensor testing or anything to ensure it doesn't burn up my pcm?

Thanks for any help

Results of pressure test Accumulator port, P R N 0 psi, D 2 1 58 - 97 with throttle lever movement.

Rear Servo, P N D 2 0 psi, L 58 -97, R 158 - 260 with throttle lever movement

Front Servo and Governor ports 0 psi, no change with rpms or throttle lever movement. But remember I have no wheel rotation for the gov port to read or test OD port.

Thanks for anyone that might can help with this, the service manual doesn't say much about 0 pressure on front servo, other than low pressure on front servo.

You have line pressure and no movement. You can be sure you have a broken hard part, most likely the input shaft. Could have cracked the hub and the shaft stripped the splines out of the hub, not hard to fix, but requires removing transmission and tearing it down.
