Metal in fuel filter

It is possible that the contamination came from an outside source (filling up at the pump), but usually metal in the filter is from the HP pump failing.

It is easiest to remove the cab being that you have to remove the turbos. It can be done with out removing the cab but the turbos can be a pain. Once you removed the turbos just remove the pump cover and change to pump. Also it would be recommend that the Fuel tank be removed and cleaned, the metal from the pump is returned to the tank and can cause damage to the fuel system again if it gets to the new pump.

Thanks, what is the reason these pumps fail so early & isn't there a upgrade for the pump & a filter w/a finer micron so it doesn't happen again.
