dumb receiver question.

I have an old sony receiver circa 2001 in my truck that is dead. Turns on but no sound comes out till I turn the key off, then makes the beepbeepbeep sound like it always did. Question is if I but a new cheap sony receiver will it plug right up or do I need new wiring harness' as well. Thanks in advance.

Odds are it is the same, BUT I would not chance it. I would wire the new harness that comes with the new head unit to the factory harness or adapter harness and go from there. No sense risking a problem from the old install hurting your new head unit.
