1979 Powerwagon

Thought I'd share my beater truck.

It's a 79 W150 that I installed a 93 VE engine and 518 into, 3/4 ton axles. Then converted it to a "Warlock" stepside.

I daily drive it and have a lot of fun

Thanks guys.

The VE, typical stuff, power screw maxed, ground pin, piston pump modded for 18 psi, 6x13 sac injectors, HE351CW

Engine has ~310k on it never been opened up. I put the last 10k on it.

Have yet to do a gsk and timing spacer, was waiting to regasket the head and do valve springs but those parts ended up going in my 2001.

Those timing spacers are still on back order. I hope they make some more soon. Haha

I've thought about having a batch of them made. Not much to it.

Some more Friday fun

Anyone have opinions on a small twin setup for a ve? HE351CW and?

I have two Caterpillar C9 turbos. One is a 66 with Variable vanes,1.24 a/r, can't find much info on it and other is a S310G (Believe it's a 64/71 and 1.1 a/r exhaust housing) Both T4 foot.

Truck weighs about 5700 lbs. Trying to use what I have to make it work, i just know it needs more air.. I'm not after the perfect hp number or track time.

Those are fairly new C9's that take those turbos. How did you end up with those?

The vgt I bought off of eBay for next to nothing. Think it's from a Challenger tractor.

S310G bad core from an excavator, salvageable imo

If you don't use them, it might be worth calling your local Cat dealer to see if either of them are on the reman. seed list. They might be worth a couple bucks.

Not familiar with seed list? Cat pay out for certain cores?

If I remember right last time I looked up the price on SIS for the VGT it was around $4k new.

I had made an adapter for it to run as a single but I don't know if the VE will push it

I've been running an S310 CAT 64/71 for a while. Those are from C9 acert engines.

The C9.3 turbo, if it's what I think, only creates back pressure to force exhaust gas to flow through the EGR system. The turbine housing is relatively useless.
I have one from a 15 or 18 liter that I haven't done anything with. It's the reverse function of how a normal housing is intended to function. I think they are borg-warners

If it's from a C9 Acert, then it should be a garret vgt. Iirc

CAT doesn't buy cores. You can poke around in TMI and ID a lot of cats turbos.

GTB4088V garret according to TMI.
I've had one of those engines in the shop in 10 years.

I'm guessing my CAT 64 is pushing 450hp. I ran an Aurora 64/71 and did 499.5 at the wheels without a lot of smoke. 575hp calculated.

The CAT has a used, cracked S300 style turbine housing, runs about the same boost, but the torque/boost curve is different due to the housing.

I would guess it could support a smokey 650hp.

Thank you again, that's the most info I've seen for this turbo.

This S310 I have has a water cooled center, Happen to know if a s300 turbine housing will fit that? Internals swap?
