98 Chevy 2500HD - ABS light, no good pedal

New member
New M/C installed. No leaks, hardware good. Cannot get a good pedal. Truck will stop but the excessive pedal travel is scary. Was told dealer is the only one who can bleed these because dealer can cycle the ABS and remove excess air in module. Another person told me the modulator valve might be bad (dirt on dump valve prevents it from sealing and fluid is going into accumulator vice the lines). Was told this valve is not serviceable. Anyone had this problem and does anyone have any ideas/solution? ABS System is Kelsey-Hayes 4067 AA80340319BAX Thanks.

You have air trapped in the system. If you didn't bench bleed the master cylinder then you have put a lot of air in there. You should try bleeding the brakes at all 4 corners again. If the pedal is still soft, you have air trapped in the abs module. You may also be able to cycle the air out by trying some emergency stops to cycle the abs, then go back and re-bleed the brakes at all four corners.
