Noob to the duramax diesel

It’s flip flopped on the duramaxes, 1 is pass side, 2 is drivers side..

That is a serious debate regarding our LLY shop truck/tow pig

it needs an injector, but the owner/boss disagrees with the intrawebs on its location......

our old tow pigs were all 5.9 cummins, so easier to diagnose.

Sounds like you might get paid to do it twice

hell, I don't even want to do it the first time!

Its a Chevy Kodiak 4500 - and you have to lift the body!
No you don't! Take the dog box out, inner fender shields, and even the hood.

Check the wiring harness on the bracket at the top of the FICM. They like to ground out there.

Do You have an idea how long ago that injector or connector were replaced?

no idea but I replaced #5 today and little no difference. I have checked the wires on that bracket and can't find any bare wires. It goes like this every time I start it, I've done this numerous times. Can't even get it to run up to full operating temp. I fire it up and it misfires on onecylinder very bad and smokes raw fuel smoke. Balance rate reading high on 4 and 5 no cel light or codes. About 10 minutes in it will start to hit on the dead cylinder on and off. After 15 minutes it will run smooth and smoke almost completely gone. Then give it a few revs and it sounds good, a few more minutes go by give it another Rev or two then tractor mode and either 1,6, or 8 injector control circuit codes. Only one code at a time

Borrowed a solus

Borrowed a solus scanner from a friend and did a cylinder contribution test and got these codes after it went into limp mode

Try moving the wiring when it’s running “okay” to see if you can find a common area. I’d guess you’ll find the issue right at the top of the FICM or behind the generator.

It rare but low compression can cause it and I’ve seen a few relucter wheels cause it (but in both those cases it should be more or less all the time. It’s even more rare but the FICM can short internally, mostly rust belt units and or guys that like to steam clean their engines often.

Good luck

Ive tried wiggling the wiring everywhere every which way and can't get it to kick into limp mode when it's running good. I don't think this truck was cleaned very much. Suspecting 1 maybe 2 injectors now. But I have no way to check compression. The truck is 100 percent bone stock so I can't really see a mechanical issue
