Hey guys I have a clunking sound from my front end so I check my ball joints and my drivers lower ball joint ins in rough shape I need to replace it very soon. Has anyone replaced the ball joints them self? if you did how hard was it? any special tools? I in debate if I want the fustration right now?

Thanks.

I have done it. took some time to do. Had a ball joint remover tool but didn't work the way it is suppose to.

i just did mine....the 1st side is a LEARNING experiance...and im
almost embarrassed to say it took me 4hrs to do the passenger side...
the drivers side took me less than TWO hours though :D

no real special tools other than some large sockets...you might be able
to get by w/ a large adjustable wrench (needed only on the ball joints
and knuckle removal).

the ball joint press and pitman arm puller can be "BORROWED" (for the
cost of a credit card deposit) from autozone(s)....if you dont return
the tools in THREE, yes THREE, MONTHS youre considered the new
owner ;)

youll need to get the inner dust seal & the yellow (hub) oring...the
oring is about 5 bucks per side & the dust seal is about 10 bucks
from orielys etc.

there is a HUB seal that you COULD replace (i didnt) its about 50
bucks from the dealer only (apparently).

the ball joints will run you about 50-60 per side (upper & lower)...but
they come w/ lifetime warranty and grease fittings...something only
ford cant seem to find ;)

do it yourself...or pay the dealer 900-1100 for the work (and you
still wont get greaseable lifetime parts)
