Factory brake controller problems
Have a 2010 ram 3500 with the factory brake controller, seems as if when towing a trailer and I hit the brakes it doesn’t apply anything to the trailer unless I slide the emergency tab over. It’ll show on the dash how much it’s applying but unless I slide the tab over I don’t feel anything in the trailer, does this on multiple trailers not just one. Any help on where to turn is appreciated.

Are your brake lights working?
Check the brake light fuse?
I believe this option also goes through the TIPM?
Mark.

Yep all is working. Just doesn’t feel like any brakes applied unless i manually do it.
On my buddies 2012 you could go in a select what type of trailer you had. Light electric or heavy electric. Guess the 2010’s didn’t have that option cause I can’t find it in the dash anywhere.

I've got a 2010 and my brake controller works great. You definitely know it.
You tried turning your gain all the way up?
Also, when you connect, or start the vehicle, the controller should display a code if there's an issue. For example, I had some snow bridge pins a the hookup once and it instantly sold me Sb (short) on the controller and flashed something on the dash.
I would be surprised if the pitch sensor went out internally.

Yeah I can turn the gain all the way up to 10 and still not feel anything, it’s says trailer connected and all that and when you brake it shows the little bar graph on the dash how much gain it’s puttig to the trailer. Still only way I feel anything is if I manually do it. That’s what I was wondering if the actually controller itself has a issue.

Take a volt meter to the pins on the back.

Exactly how my 2010 acts. I just gave up and quit worrying about trailer brakes.

Glad to hear someone else has the same issue, at least I know I’m not just imagining it. Im gonna replace the controller and see what happens.

Ive had the same issues. We have had several delivery pickups, and they have all done it. Ive always kind of blamed the trailer more than the pickup. We drive on a ton of gravel and rough roads and break the magnetics fairly often.
It does seem that they are pretty inconsistent though. Will work during the few first stops then seems to stop working.
