Dana60 front axle and rack and pinion steering

Zero feel for full hydro, I think that might be a little hard to drive in a mud race. I've driven a couple full hydro crawlers and they get pretty spooky at 20+MPH.

this....however those ultra4 drivers know how it's done!

Im missing something in that first photo. That axle appears to still have a tie rod. Did they get rid of the other end of the r&p? Otherwise every time the suspension bumped it would be changing dimensions of a trapezoidal shape that it doesn't have a mechanism to compensate for. Bump steer would be a problem in any configuration using an r&p I would think

Oh really?!

not sure way mounting the rack to the axle would make it unsafe?.. Some Freightliner Coronados have a R& P setup.. mounted on the drop beam front axle... much improved steering feel. only issue would be making sure the steering shaft had travel...The Rack could change its geometry if its axle mounted... it stays fixed.. only change would be in steering shaft angle to rack input.
