What's a 6.4 motor with a rod knock worth?

Picked up a 08 6.4 with 189k on it. Has a rod knock over 1k rpms once it warms up. Passed compression test and injector balance test with flying colors. Motor is also studded and deleted. Trying to get a ballpark on what i can get out of this thing so I can start on the fummins build:Cheer:

The shop that diagnosed it offered me 1500 for the motor and they would pull it. Sounds pretty low. Who buys the cores? I'd pull it myself if I had a place to take it

A buddy of mine did a Fummins swap. Sold 6.4 with cracked heads and pistons, pressurizing cooling system. Said he got $5k for it. I was impressed.

Local guy in Florida picked it up if I'm remembering right. I will try to contact him over the weekend and get some details.

I know it was running. It was completely F'd, but it did run. That might have been the caveat. Sootie is right about the core pricing. Quick search turns up $2600.

This one runs great, just has a rod knock over 1000 rpms. Yeah ask around and let me know if you would. Appreciate it

Show me a buyer for above $1500, because I personally have never found ANY of the fabled "over $1500" buyers for the 6.4 PowerStroke and I have heard of a LOT of them.
Typical core price these days for the 6.4s is ~ $1250, which is as good as I have found.
They were up around $1500 over a year ago.
Even back then, the only thing making them valuable was the shortblock, because they have a real POS bottom end.
The rest, other than the turbos, is nickle and dime stuff, as far as core value.

The diesel core market, in general, has taken a HUGE drop in the last year or so.

Mark.

If you have a running 6.4, the only thing worth much is the short block, and even that is a risk because the cylinders can be so worn that 0.030” won’t clean them up, and if the “oil” level is high on the dip stick there’s a decent chance that the block/crank will be junk.
The heads are always crack on them (my experience anyway), used injectors are cheap, blah, blah.
If they’re offering you $1,500 on a knocking 6.4, and they’ll take it out, I’d take it and not look back.

Ford has guaranteed core, don't forget.

The shop seems awfully interested to buy it, which makes me think they can get a good chunk out of it somewhere, I just need to find out where there taking it too and then pull it myself!
