Brakes...again.

Well, looks like my vibration is a stuck caliper, so I'm looking at going ahead and doing all four corners finally. Truck has a drum brake Dana 80 rear, so nothing really to question there, except I believe I've read to swap the wheel cylinders to GM? Real question is the front, are there any worthwhile upgrades out there? Been looking at the power stop kits some. Are there any direct replacement upgraded calipers? I've tried searching and came up empty, but if this has already been covered, just post a link, and I'll move to that thread, thanks.

Seems that I read somewhere about there being a 3rd gen upgrade, on the 2nd gen front brakes, in the past few months.

Mark.

Yeah, I'm thinking I've read some brake threads, but I cant find then now!

I've had good luck with my drilled/slotted power stop kit off rockauto. Idk if the 3rd gen upgrade is better or not, I do know you need a 17 or larger wheel for it

If you have oversized wheels and tires, you can put 3rd gen brakes on the front. Just change out the bracket about 65.00 each, fix or replace your calipers, and put 3rd gen rotors and brake pads on the truck. You now have 33% more caliper on the front. Night and day difference.

Just a little FYI, the 3rd gen brakes aren't anything to write home about. EBC rotors and pads help as does disabling the ABS. I have 42 in tires and if your not buckled in you might find yourself threw the windshield.

Same with mine, biggest differance I think was bypassing the proportioning valve in the rear, I can actually feel the truck squat if I break hard. My 99 has power stop fronts with disc rears and it brakes twice as hard as my 01 with 4 wheel disc

Think I'm going to go the 3rd gen route, possibly the complete power stop kit, pads, rotors, and calipers. Looks to be little over $500 for that, so I'll have to do a little more looking. Any particular year I need to ask for of a 3rd gen? '05 is popping into my head for some reason, if it matters.

I would like to upgrade my fronts on my 96 i already did the gm cylinder on my D70.

Might go the powerstop route

When I do the fronts I'm going to upgrade to braided lines as well.

My 03 has the 14" rotors.

Tried doing a little more looking, is there anything about the powerstop calipers that would justify them being $170 more than standard parts store pieces?

Just called, nothing special but red powder coat! Oe spec internals, so I won't be buying those calipers!

The GM wheel cylinders, new drums and shoes definitely made a difference on my 00. I didn’t change anything on the front yet. The mechanic that did the inspection on it asked me what I did lol.
