Machine Shops for HE351VE Modification

I am wanting to modifying my own HE351VE turbo for a larger compressor and turbine wheel. Since no shop in Alaska will do it, I am hoping to do a "core charge" for the turbine and compressor housing. I have tried getting in touch with Turbolab, but they are not responding. What other machine shops might be able to do this work?

I am looking at a 70x67 turbine wheel and the 63x99x103 compressor wheel.

North American Turbo or Taterbuilt turbo - but they are out in Ohio.

I think PDD might be able to do it also

Those wheels are from turbo lab. The compressor is ok. The exducer is a bit on the large side but it works. The turbine is a bit of a gamble. I am not sure if he gets seconds or gets them from a different manufacturer than everybody else but we have had a lot of turbos in for repair with his turbines. They randomly loose entire blades at times. I am not in the business to bash so nobody take it that way. Just not a very reliable part in our experience.

Thanks for the advice. I also have a more general question, what are the thoughts on modifying the HE351VE turbo? Ultimately, I would like twins as I tow heavy, and also like the exhaust brake. My goal is 600-700hp. Should I just leave the stock turbo alone? Perhaps just replace the stock turbine wheel with the same size but 10 blade, and a billet compressor wheel?

What do you guys charge for your blend of wheels in one, say for a work stock setup that keeps the VGT? The site just shows a reman right?

I have similar interest, to be used in a compound arrangement.

Not to derail thread.

For that kind of power I would just leave the stock turbo alone if you plan to compound it. A turbine upgrade is nice but not necessary.

Yeah our site just shows remans for now. We are slowly updating things. We sell a 62mm with upgraded turbine for $1300 exchange. 64mm for $1400 exchange. and a 67mm for $1400 exchange. These are exchange prices so a core is needed obviously. These are sold without actuator to help keep them cost effective for guys but new and reman actuators are available if yours is junk. That price includes calibration and install of your actuator as well. These prices are subject to change obviously but currently that is where they are at.

Those are pretty reasonable prices. Would I be able to just send the turbine and compressor housing for modification, and then assemble the turbo myself? Shipping to/from Alaska can be expensive? Also, if I can safely reach my hp goals with just the VGT turbo, twins can wait.

Dang, I like your business strategy. If my actuator works fine, why pay for a new/reman one.
When it's time, I'll likely bug you about the 67mm setup.

I use a he451ve in a compound setup. My turbo is the big brother to the he351ve, mine in stock form is a 64 mm compressor and I forgot the turbine wheel specs but the turbine housing is a 29cm rather than a 25cm. This helps get drive pressure down a bit. So my setup is a he451ve on the manifold with a s488 t6 atmospheric. I love the exhaust brake feature. I tow heavy so I have the pacbrake loadlesh as well as the vgt turbo. I love to play and this combination has worked well for me.

That sounds like a pretty sweet setup. Does the HE451VE fit in the stock location? I am guessing no, but perhaps it does. Any pics of your setup?

For that kind of HP have a look at our Screamer turbo 1045770, Ballistic Billet 64.5mm 7+7 blade compressor wheel and 70mm 12 blade turbine. it's good to 690HP and you keep your exhaust brake. As Well I have Dealers in Alaska that can bring it in for you if it's not already in stock.

This setup is a second gen location. This setup has been very reliable and been tons of fun. But to be fair the rest of the motor is far from stock and my trucks are manuals trans. I ran a he451ve as a single on a stock motor for over a year and loved it, but it wasn’t cheap. Steed built several manifolds (I have more then 1 he451ve setup)and I made the rest of the piping. I can’t get my pics to load. Send me your number and I will send you pics. I love vgt setups and wouldn’t go any other direction.
