Clutch squeak??
Ok guys I have a south bend dd. clutch in my 2010 f250. It's the 850/1500 I think it's the 3600. But anyway when ever I let it out in any gear it squeaks so loud that I can't handle it I'm bout to order a different clutch. I've called south bend they said its build up on the disks. They told me to be rougher on it so I started being rougher and still the noise no change all. It drives me crazy. It's only when I engaged clutch that's it no other time. Anyone ever heard this or no what it is? Also clutch is about 8 months old and 4000k miles.

I think what Jeremy is talking about is floater plate rattle...this doesn't sound like what you are describing.

No depending on the disc material when you let out on the clutch and it starts to grab they will squeak. The more ferrous the material the more the squeak

All mine rattle and squeak. Normally the only time they are quiet is under power or shutoff

The squeak comes from the disc glazing. Take it out on the road and slip it some and try to get the glaze to wear off. Ever now and then i take my street truck out and rev it and slip the crap out of the clutch and get it hot and normally it will quiet down for a while

Sounds like a Sintered Iron dual disc(solid black feramic material on each side of the discs), from my experience they will always squeak on engagement. Excellent clutch for a pulling truck, but can be a little aggressive for some people on the street.

There is a couple of threads on different sites about SB's clutch squeek on engagement. My 3250 has a squeek that started about 5k miles after I put it in. And it is a ceramic button style.

Interesting, I called Peter and worked out a trade in on my 3600 SI I never installed that was intended for my 2.6 motor build. I should have a 3250 12CB showing up next week, that's geared more towards the street life my 97 is bound for now. I ran a 3850 CB for years DD'n and truck pulling but it never squeaked. I'm anxious to try out this new one Peter changed some stuff on for me!

There is no complaints from me. Like you said If you slip it every so often, the squeak goes away. The clutch does what its meant to do. South Bend builds a quality clutch.

I want to know if sintered iron clutches are more aggressive than ceramic clutches looking for a new clutch for my tow/toy truck. I would like to here from someone who ran one.

Mine doesn't squeak at all but i can get it to hold past quarter throttle and this is the second clutch so far within a month. Got over 1100 miles on it now and still no hold.

I have personally ran a 3850 lever plate 12 ceramic button clutch from Peter for years, I had my 3850 converted to a Sintered Iron at the end of last season in preparation for a new stronger motor I was going to build. I never personally got to run my Sintered Iron clutch, but I've been around several trucks that had SBC & Haisley Sintered Iron clutches and they all sweaked on engagement.
The sintered iron is definately more aggressive because its a feramic material completely lining the surface of the disc's vs. a ceramic (softer) button type clutch which engages easier.
97rada, on this forum runs a 3600 sintered iron in his daily driver, but doesn't tow from what he told me. I decided to put my 97 back on the street and know that a lever plate clutch isn't ideal for that from my experience. I could have thrown in my fresh 3600 sintered iron clutch from SBC, but I called Peter back and we talked and agreed on a street clutch that would hold the power I'm planning on making (600ish w/twins) and would take some abusive playing occasionally. Also I just had new bearings and syncro's put in my NV4500 so I wanted a sprung hub DD. So Peter is setting me up with a 3250, solid floater plate (appearently Peter has even found a way to dampen the floaters! ), 12 Ceramic button DD. Can't wait to get my truck back on the road and try it out!

The reason I ask is a person at valair told me the sintered iron triple disk would be more streetable than a double disk ceramic I kinda need some info I got my truck tuned very close to what I want and I can turn my ceramic kevlar valair single into a slipper clutch at half throttle loaded so now Im in the market for a better clutch
