Do you just plate them, add a few of bungs for water in/out and a drain, and thats it? Basically just surrounding the stock intercooler with ice water?
Ive thought about doing this several times but wasnt sure how it would affect the engine temps since the radiator would be blocked off.

I kinda wondered that myself but in a sled pull i dont think you woudl have any problems. :/ i think i might try it for the first few pulls this year i just got my hands on a few pieces of aluminum from a frind of mine for free so why not! I think i am going to build a sort of spray bar that will disperse the water a little more evenly over the whole top of the intercooler. Ill post a few pics when i get around to it.

That is my plan if I ever go to a air/water setup.

Water IC cores are designed different than air-air IC's. maybe due to the overall size it would work, but the water is not going to flow across the bars very well to pull the heat out like it would if it was a true water/air core.

Should you add like a 1/2" or so bf you weld on the plate to make a tank on each side? [II] - something like this?

While I do agree, I still think that intercooler converted to a air/water would be way ahead cooling wise than in stock air/air form. At least in a pulling truck.

We ran tests with plating the stock IC vs. aftermarket and the Aftermarket Air to water blew it away.

Where is a good place to pick up a Air/water IC? I have looked into the FrozenBoost.com kits but they say they are only rated to 70 psi. They are priced right but id hate to get one then blow it apart. My boost gauge goes to 60psi and I can peg it, so I guess its time to get something different.

What about Stock Air to Air?
I have no doubt the stock one plated in would be worse than a Aftermarket Air to water...but my bet is it would be MUCH better than the air to air in a pulling truck...
Never tried it, just a WAG!!!

I think the problem with plating the stock air-air is going to be having the water flow thru the fins. There is a big difference in the IC just sitting in a tank of water and having your IC core being able to have cold water constantly flowing thru it..... Lets say you found a way to turn the stock IC so it was laying flat in a tank and had water flowing from the top to the bottom with the help of a bilge pump and then have the ice sit ontop of the core with sprayers pointing down at the ice . The only problem with this setup is that it would take up major room....44" long, 24" wide and at least
12" deep or more.
That is the only possible way I can at all see the stock unit working and honestly it could be more efficent than an after market air-water ic but I have heard there is a point that the air can get to cold....don't know the total truth behind that.
Ryan

Anyone running an air to water IC in like a street truck/puller? Looking for a way to maybe bring the EGTs down some just didnt know what it would compare like vs a stock IC on the street.
