Power seat motors no worky

These are pics of the brushes in the power seat motor out of my truck that do not work. Can anyone tell me what the red rectangular component is?





I have no continuity from one side of it to the other. Could I cut the wire, solder it together and put a fuse in line of the wires going to the connector?

Looks like a capacitor.

Ditto, it's a cap. Cut it out of there and make sure it's drained by shorting it out. Then you can test to see if it has continuity and also charge it up to see if it is functional. New ones can be had for a few bucks.
