crank position sensor problems

Helping a bud replace the crank position sensor on his '97 6.5 GMC and the end broke off with the majority of the sensor still in the block. What is the best way to get it out, tried several ideas tonight and didn't have any luck. For anyone who's done it before you know it's not in an easy place to get to and we're trying not to destroy anything in the process or have to call in a tow & end up payin a mechanic.

I use a small drill bit and drill small holse in 4 corners near the edge and use a pick to pull it out. Never did one on a 6.2, but had to do several in a 5.3 Vortec.
