Splitting Ford Tractors

I need to split two of my tractors this winter. The 7600 PTO brake stopped working the other day and the 9600 needs a clutch. I split my 7600 at the rear/trans with no special tools a couple years ago and it was not a pleasant process. Evidently I didn't set the PTO brake band correctly.

How are you guys doing these or are you just paying to have them done? I'm sorta cheap and like to learn, but splitting the 7600 again isn't real high on my fun list and the 9600 would likely kill me. Of course, in the manual is shows a professional track/trolley system, but I'm sure those are hard to come by. It's hard to justify thousands in labor on old tractors that are worth less than 10k.

This style is what I have used everytime I've split one of ours. Works well. Have a good friend I share them with. All adjustable so if something settles or shifts, they can be easily realigned.

I’m in south central Ky and have a rolling set of splitting stands you’re welcome to use if you want to drive back and forth to get and return them.

If the 7600 doesn't have load monitor you can fix the pto by simply removing the lift top.

Im no expert, and sure dont know sizes, but i helped with a few at buddies. 56 MF, and little newer ford. We always put rear on jacks and front on this monster screw sytle tranny jack he has. Disconnect and slide forward, then further secure on jacks

I know it’s a different animal, but when I split my Super 55, I put the front on jack stands and scotched the front wheels, then put a floor jack under the rear and rolled the rear wheels to separate it. The floor jack rolled back with the rear.

7600 Ford is big enough you might be able to get by without stands. The 9600 you want the right stuff.

Again, you're welcome to borrow a set if you want. The only other thing you need is a good concrete floor.

We use different stands for different tractors. As big as a 9600 is, you want the good ones.

The last time we did the 7600 we did the jack, scoot, and boogie dance and it was a big pain. On a smaller tractor it isn't too bad though. For the bigger ones a track or roller is absolutely necessary I feel.

Chris that would be awesome, when I make room for one in the shop I'll make a little drive your way. Might have to do that "Tour O' Tractors" people talk about. I do appreciate that a lot.

Bracker: You sound like a drive compared to Chris' place, where in KY are you? I do appreciate the offer though.

Destroked: I'm not sure if it has load monitor or not. I thought all the 7600 had it, but going through the top would be a blessing at this point. Part of me just wants to drop them off somewhere. Heck, even the Oliver Super 77 needs some brakes and a Hydraulic leak fixed. [Sounds like a job for Miabach]

So many projects so little time....

I’m 30 miles east of Glasgow Ky, 3 hours from Cincinnati.

I had this thought that Chris was in Kansas or Missouri, but duh, he’s in Ohio. Should’ve known that by his offer to help with the CompD reunion.

I’m sure he’s much closer than I am!

You can tell if it has load monitor if it has a set of odd hyd couplers on the rear besides the normal ones.
Without load monitor removing the rear bearing support and shaft after removing the lift top gives full access to the pto clutch assembly.
With load monitor the torque sensor prevents the pto clutch pack from being removed.
There is a band adjustment for the pto brake but it's on the bottom side of the control valve, I'd still pull the lift top to see if the adjustment can be accessed before splitting the tractor.
Even with a split rolling the tractor back together is easier with the lift top off, you can reach inside and rotate the shafts for alignment.

I have a small shop and mostly work on my own stuff, located 50 miles southwest of Louisville, 7710 is as big as I want in my shop.

I still say that’s one of the best done (somehow that doesn’t sound like proper grammar) swaps I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for the compliment, I went to a little extra effort to make the 5.9 Cummins look like it came in the that F-450.
I don't like swaps that look like they were thrown in and held together with bubble gum and baling wire.

Tell your brother that machine we got from him is doing a great job.
