How much heat is normal for new R&P install?

New install of detroit 37 spline locker with new carrier bearings and different R&P set (Dana spicer) with new pinion bearing.

Back lash at approx 0.010" (was told).

The differential housing was pretty hot after 1 hour drive home. Wheel bearings cool. Haven't had a chance to jack it up and see how free it spins, but am wondering how long to get the new gear set/bearings to run cooler or do I have another problem now?

Does it take a few hundred miles to get everything set/broken in similar to head studs/rings/cams?

Does anyone know a good, reliable driveline shop in West-central Wisconsin? I've lost faith in the one that did mine.

I think your proly ok. ive blown my dana 70 up 5 times and every time after I rebuild it, it runs hot for about 50 miles then it cools way down.

Thanks, that's more reassuring. This has turned into a bit of a nightmare project and it really has me worked up.

5 times for your 70? One thought - D80 :poke: :Cheer:

What is breaking in the D-70 ? how are you blowing them up?

As for heat.... Any diff after driving 100 miles is going to be hot to the touch...you'll need a temp guage to get any specific issues..
