So, we are toying with building a "Hood Stack" kit. Most likely availble in 5, 6, and 7" straight or miter cut styles. My question is would you rather see an easy bolt on style application, or a weld on application? Let's hear your feed back please!

Thanks in advance!

A bolt on hood stack would probably be easier to install then welding one on there, but the welded stack might look better depending on how the flange looks.

Bolted flange, with some stainless, countersunk hardware for looks??

Need a test dummy? I could hurry up and get my engine in the little truck and try it out:hehe:

Chris

Is this application going to be turbo specific? or is this just for the section through the hood?

I have a pretty slick idea in the works, where everything will bolt together nicely, and you won't even see the bolts...

Scary...you're startin' to think like me...:D

If I do I'll let ya know.

Right now I'm not sure. We have turbo pipes for all the factory turbo's (07 and older) so I'm sure we can do a flange and 90* up.....

We are going to probably persue this completely...so if you are looking for everything needed...then we would probably build it that way...

Sorta like the "universal" vs. "complete" set up....

REALLY large...

So assuming we just need a short stack and the flange, that would be offered too? For those "custom" chargers?

Prety much. The universal set would be you puting the hood stack where ever you want, and you're responsible for the plumbing, and the complete one would be Grand Rock telling you the placement of the hood stack.

Only thing we need to know is the plumbing coming off of the turbo...is that going to be 4" or 5"? Or does this depend on the set up?

Some will be 4", some will be 5"...the way most hood stacks are setup is the stack is bigger than the actual pipe, and fits over it...so you'll probably need either a 5" or 6" stack, depending on the exhaust.

At least in my feeble little mind!

Ok, this kind of information is KEY...so we can make sure we do this right!

I was thinking 5,6, and 7" hood stacks.

Maybe something like 18-20" tall? Yes, No?

Maybe that tall for some people...I'm guessing most will want them 12" or less to the high side of a mitre...of course, everyone may be a little different!

Personally, 5", 6", and 7" should be enough...but someone is gonna want an 8":hehe:

Well maybe we could offer 2 or 3 different lenghts....

Do any of the racing or pulling orginazations have any "minimum" requirments? Maybe one of them will chime in here, and help us out.

 I'm sure someone is gonna want a 8" one also...:bang

No minimum requirements unless it has to be street legal...other than that, I believe it's all personal preference!

I've heard from some old tractor pullers that they need to be able to see the smoke and see what it's doing...and also if they get any flame out the stack...hence the stacks were shorter. Some other stacks are taller...like I said, all personal preference!

Someone always has to have bigger! LOL
This is going to be a great setup when its all done with.

Ill offer mine as a beta tester since I've already got one. Mine is welded, bolt on would be much easier. If you would like my number I can tell you what some little bits that need tone addressed.

I think the idea of hoodstack kit is great!!!

Are you going to offer the ring that goes around the hole in the hood too? A lot of people ask for those especially if they did a hack job on the hood with a sawzall.
Just an idea....$.02
