I am starting a VE pumped 6.7 convertion.I will be posting pis of my progress.I have been doing VE pumped 24 valves for awhile now but this will be my first true 6.7 cummins.

This is my doner engine,2008 6.7 ,as you can see it was in a lite fire. [ame="http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/jodo1132/media/100_0554_zps550db578.jpg.html"]100_0554_zps550db578.jpg Photo by jodo1132 | Photobucket[/ame]

First I started on the gear case.About half of the bolt holes line up,I have to drill and tap 7 holes, drill a hole for the killer dowel pin and I am going to use a dowel from the 6.7 at the bottom.I used a spare vp44 gear case as my ginny pig for drilling holes, made it pretty easy

The gear case turned out good, really was pretty easy. The next obstacle was the oil pan.Common-rail pans are shorter than pre 02 pans.So what I did was cut the front section off a old 12valve pan and add it to the front of the common-rail pan,it is all roughed in as you can see, this took a little time to figure out what the best option was

I cant believe you found me so fast Mark!!!

All gears on the 6.7 need to be changed out, they are all a straight cut tooth. The crank and cam gear can be pulled with a heavy gear puller,to install them I heated them in the kitchen oven for 45 minutes at 250 F . the crank gear just falls into place, the came I had to lightly tap it into place. The oil pump gears have to be changed too,the common-rail pumps are smaller on the block side so the older pumps wont work, but its easy to swap the gears, they pull off easy and interchange

I like the VE pumps because the are very reliable, easy to rebuild, compact and can produce plenty of power. I started out putting 1st gen 12 valves in 03 and up trucks. Then ventured into VE pumping 98.5-02 engines and putting them into 03 and up trucks. The VE pump gives you more elbo room and keep things looking almost natural in the trucks,

The next issue to work around is drilling steam holes in the head.Iam using a VP44 head so I can run the mechanical injectors. As you can see I layed a 6.7 head gasket on the VP head and between each cylinder there are supposed to be 2 holes. All I did was mark them and drill 7/32 5/8" deep holes .It was about that deep till the bit hit a water jacket

Started putting things together, its a slow process cleaning and painting.I will be building a pump over the next couple days ,making adaptors for the VP44 lines and doing injectors,I will go into more detail as I am working on them

Man, that old, crusty 6.7 looks a WHOLE LOT better than what it did when it left here!
Glad you took this one on, John.

Mark.
