Did you address the dowel pin and bolt hole issue on the right lower case corner?
Are you going to check and correct the gear lash measurement on the pump gear?

Mark.

Set gear lash and not running any dowels. Means I will have to check gear lash anytime I take the gear case off, but I don't plan on doing that ever again lol.

Hopefully the bolts never work loose, like they typically have on many pre-commonrail engines with high miles that I have taken apart.
Loctite may be your best friend on that.

Mark.

Had to build a custom oil pan. It was pretty easy. Kept 90% of the commonrail pan and just added the front section of a vp44 pan.

Modded stock 5.9 commonrail connector tubes. I chose them as they have a smaller ID then the 6.7 tubes do.

Yes, all the gear housing bolts are loctited in.

I drilled the holes using a rented mag drill and just tapped them by hand. One of the upper bolt holes for the gear case went into the cooling jacket so that one got a stud installed with thread sealant. That way I can still take the timing cover off without loosing all the coolant.

So far, nothing really new from what I have experienced, but nice execution.

One thing, though, did you have to clearance the block for the cam sensor on the timing case?
I know on a VE or P7100 case you do, for the timing pin assembly.

Also, how did you do the rear pump supports, both for the combo-pump and the VP?

Mark.

Thanks Mark. I wasn't trying to re-invent the wheel with this setup. Just use all the available stock parts I had here to make it work. The block had to be clearanced for the injection pump only. Cam sensor fit no problem. Cylinder head needed to be clearanced slightly for the pump also. I built my own brace for the injection pump that bolts to the 6.7 oil drain plate for the 6.7 valve cover. Have a brace off that as well that supports the power steering pump. I didn't take any pics of that though sorry.

Thanks for your replies.
I think your VP version is going to be a torque monster on the bottom and if you play with tuning, it ought to do well on fuel mileage.

Currently have a Diablo Power Puck for tuning lol. Its what was on the truck when I got it and figured I'd try it with the 6.7. Eventually I want to put an Edge on it.

The why was because the 53 block was cracked in the truck and I had a good used long block 6.7 sitting here. I had all the parts to build it, only cost me a set of gaskets, studs and some extra time. End goal is to hope for a good strong tow pig. This truck hauls my chassis dyno around in the summer and if we load a truck on it the dyno with truck is close to 20,000lbs weight. The old 5.9 made 400hp and 850ft/lbs to the tires, I'd like to see 400hp and 1000 ft/lbs with the 6.7 engine.

You don't know what it is to do something "different", just for the sake of doing it, do you?

Not particularly. I consider my time valuable, so if I am doing something, there is always a gain. However if doing something "different" makes you happy then that could work. Wasnt being an ass, just curiosity is all.

I'm not afraid of different lol. Compared to the 4BT swap in my Dakota and the countless years of tweaking that truck, this 6.7 VP project was a walk in the park lol.
