I've been trying to get more information from those Finns for the last two years.
When I saw that video, I was sold. Here in the states, virtually nobody modifies the diesel powered Mercedes. I'd REALLY like to know what those guys had to do (if anything) to the internals of their engines to make 'em last. The rest of it is easy...bigger injectors, etc. I know that the newer engines (OM603 and OM606?) have an inline pump that has some sort of electronic controls, but trying to gain any information on this subject has been very frustrating. From what I understand, the older I5 engines have a reputation for running forever but not when cranked up... Anything you could translate would be appreciated greatly. Also, if you could try getting in touch with those guys that would be most excellent. I had a guy that speaks Finnish natively get in touch with them and they never responded. Thanks, Matt

Here is the forum for those Merc enthusiasts, scroll down to English section and leave a hollar. (Note - site requires regging your username)
http://mersuforum.net/forum/ Here's a grab from that forum, keep on plowing through all the pics: http://www.kolumbus.fi/valtonen.moto...ges/image1.htm Super- and turbocharged Mercedes: http://www.kolumbus.fi/valtonen.moto...es/image16.htm --- Another alternative is to swing by here: http://www.holysmoke.fi/forum/index.php ,and leave a hollar in the English language section. Should work OK without registering. Mercedes people visit that site as well, so message will eventually get to them. -- Here's a ¼-mile video flick on one of the domestic Merc's: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/4...340068a79b.htm Goofing around with that super- and turbocharged Merc: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v2...=matskuu-1.flv . THANK YOU!!!! You are THE MAN!
I just checked out all of those links and signed up at the Mersuforum site. I just had a diesel orgasm watching that Merc sedan run high 11's in the 1/4 mile. Time to do some research. ![]() Matt |

The OM606 is the way to go for the big horsepower. I have a contact at Myna Diesel the pump shop of the Finn superturbos that speaks good english. He is Antti Arola and is very familiar with the MB mods in Finland. from what I understand the internals of most all the engines are stock but there are some running custom rods but that is it. I am going to be doing a turbo swap on my Om617 soon in an attempt to get a nice reliable 200rwhp.

Thanks for the info. Once a few of the many irons I have in the fire cool down a bit, the OM606 project will commence.
I gotta get the Jeep running first. ![]() Later, Matt |

The Superturbo forum at http://schumanautomotive.com/forums/...splay.php?f=19 is a great source for tuning the 5-cylinder OM617.

Aren't the OM617's prone to windowing the block when you start to pour the coals to them?
Compared to the OM606, they seem kinda fragile... Matt |
