Installing 05-06 headlamps on a 99-04 SD

Installed the headlamp assemblies off a '05 HD Super Duty on my SD at my friend's body shop (Alamo's Body Shop). Thanks to Alamo's for the use of the shop space, tools, and help. And Thanks to 4x4Michael (member of another site) who I called this morning to get any tips or tricks that he had from when he did the swap.

Here's the Headlamps (I went with the Harley Davidson Edition Headlamps):

Part numbers are 5C3Z*13008*CA and 5C3Z*13008*DA.

My truck with the stock headlamps, corners, and grille removed (two clips and the adjuster hold the headlamps to the header panel):

My buddy cutting out the header panel with a rotozip:

One thing that's hard to see from the pics since I don't have any good closeups from when we finished is that there is a round peg that the 99-04 corners snap into that needs to be cut off right by the fender. And, there is a "splash guard" type thing that goes from the wheel well around to the front under the headlamps that needs to be cut to allow the 05-06 headlamps to fully sit back and mount properly.

Header panel cut out:

Test fitting the headlamps:

Put back together:

Old Headlamps, corners, and pieces of the header panel that were cut out:

To wire them up I got the dfuser plug and play heavy duty harness from BCD:

to be continued.........

The harness is easy to install. It plugs into the stock harness on the driver's side, has one connection to the battery, plug into two relays that come with it and hook up three ground wires.

When I did the harness I also decided to install the Silverstar 3157 turn signal/parking lamp bulbs at the same time.

Here's a pic with the Silverstar in the driver's side, standard amber bulb in the passenger side:

Both sides with the Silverstars:

Testing the lights (you can see that the silverstars still light up amber):

I forgot to mention up above....the bottom of the headlamp is secured by the two screws that used to hold the 99-04 corners in. Up top, I ended up using a self tapping screw to secure it to the header panel:

If you have properly installed the lamps this is the finished product:

Looks good. Very good actually

Bear Hunter, is there anything you have done to your truck which someone hasn't done first? I know imitation is the ultimate compliment but you're taking things just a bit too far.

He stole all my ideas and I'm just getting around to doing them myself

Seriously though, yep he does have a bad azz truck...I do get a lot of ideas from him and others ...but there will be a few other things going on that he doesn't have

So when are you going to give me a pro-deal on some boards?

DC, you need to stop improving on that truck, your really starting to make others look bad.....

That is a killer view from the front. I'd hate to see that thing bearing down on my rear-view mirror....

Stole all your ideas.....

He does have something's planned (and some already on that you all don't know about) that I don't have. Which is cool.....if his truck was just like mine I'd have to change mine and not tell him about it or post any pics

In all honestly, it was Bear Hunter and DrSpeed that talked me into doing the Harley Davidson headlamps on my truck.....I wasn't planning on doing them. I must say that I'm glad I listened to them as I like the look a lot

Thanks for the compliment

....and yeah...people do get out of my way when I'm coming up quickly on them. A few weeks ago I was out at night and a kid in a little celica pulled out in front of me (and I was moving pretty quickly) once he saw me in his mirror and realized that it was getting bright inside his car (windows weren't tinted) he prompty pulled back onto the median and let me by

don't you just love throwing that big arse front end right into the rear-view of some punk..... or a minivan soccer mom who has her phone stuck to her ear, driving with her knee so she can put on makeup at the same time, for that matter
