Transmission Fluid = FUEL

Please read this before backing out.

I have a friends with a 2005 Duramax CCDRW that he bought with 5058miles on it 2 months ago. It was averageing about 17.5mpg on interstate only with cruise on 70mph. He decided that he need more power while towing and more economy. So he installed a MBRP 4" TBE exhaust, S&B intake, BD driver side exhaust manifold and a SuperChips Tuner to maximixe efficiency. After all was put on he took the truck out for a long interstate ride and only saw a 3/4mpg differance with cruise set at 70mph. I say all this because it matters. After fuel reached $3.48/gal he decides he wants to use alternate fuels; So since he is a Transmission tech at a dealership he decides he is going to use all of his left NEW Trans Fluid sitting around as fuel. He dumps 6gallons of trans fluid in a FULL tank of Diesel and drives 12 miles home. He reproted a 4 MPG increase on the way home.

After hearing this I decide to try this out on a mofied OBS Powerstroke of my dads, It gets 16 MPG and is really doggy getting up to speed. I pumped 4 gallons of NEW Trans Fluid into my front(17gal) tank and then topped off with Diesel. drove 10 miles on the interstate and after getting off, i noticed a bigg difference in acceleration. It was actually easier to get up to speed and maintain.

I say all this because, I hear that Trans Fluid is BAD on the fuel system and causes premature falure. I do know that Trans Fluid is a Extremely Good Cleaner, so maybe its just cleaning out all the gunk in the fuel system? I also found this in a DieselpowerMag.

some where i heard that trans fluid had allot of parafin in it so i think it might gum up the fuel system. i sometimes run some diesel kleen or ashless two stroke oil hasnt hurt anything in 90,000 miles. but i think its all a bit of a risk kind of like adding used engin oil to your tank.

In the past I have put atf in my fuel tank...I also had to put a new set of injectors in my truck as well. To each his own but I have my own past experiences on which my opinions are based.

A friend works at a dealership with a man that has been running waste engine oil in his LB7 for years.

The same friend has been running aft and engine oil for almost a year in his OBS, just keeps one tank full of diesel and the other full of at, starts it on diesel, switches to atf to drive, then back to diesel about a mile from work.

No issues yet.

I had several gallons of what I thought to be very clean used atf from my truck when switching to Amsoil,so I strained it into clean jugs and started adding to fuel in truck,VW TDI and JD 4230,when getting near the bottom of the first jug noticed the dark sediment in the bottom, after a better look I decided to toss it in the wood stove for fuel, I was amazed at how clean it appeared until gravity proved how poor my filtering process was.
IMHO a few penny's saved can cost a fortune in an injection system.Filter Well .

I've been doing it for years. Trans oil, waste oil, hydraulic oil. They all burn. Probably have a combined 200,000 miles between my old mans, their new JD tractor, couple powerstrokes, my cummins, and 1 dmax.
No problems other than you can't run 100% in the winter time. All you have to do is filter it real good. Guys that say that you can't shouldn't run it, have either

1. Never done it and just go by hearsay
2. Did it improperly and f'd something up
3. Used in in a already hurt/damaged/worn engine and finished it off

OR

4. Have money to burn or no access to it.

JMO

Focker out

I use waste oil in my home central heating boiler , works very well and cost almost nothing ....:woohoo:

I know of 2 vp and 2 cr trucks that have ran it both oil and trans fluid and neither ended well. The cr needed injectors after and both of the vp's had to be changed out. All was filtered to 1micron. It sounds like for every person that has had problems with it there is the same amount that has good luck using it so I guess its to each his own.

what pre filters are you guys using ? I have a couple 1st gens planning on running atf and waste oil, any one running FASS pumps or second gen piston pump 12valve. THANKS

I thought the detergents in atf where not good for cylinder walls? because of the friction modifiers? and also carbon buildup would be excessive causing problems down the road? would it not?

wmo

I have a shop in AZ and have been running wmo for about a year now Approximatlely 20k miles
it is in a 12 valve runs pretty good mixed @ 50% wmo 30% gasoline and 20% diesel. I filter it through 2 oil filters about 15 microns and it eats about a fuel filter per tank 7 bucks for the filter and about 40 bucks for the purchased fuel makes a trip to the pump a little less painful. I average about 20 ish mpg if I dont tow or flogg it to badly. everyone freaks out and says " can you do that??? !!!!"

160 pump 3k springs 0 plate afc full forward stk injectors and boost elbow off

I know ATF does some nasty things to 2 stroker stuff, from doing dumb stuff as a kid, like running mopeds and Suzuki 2 strokes with it.

I wouldn't even dream of running it through a mechanical injection pump, much less a C/R or VP engine.

It has no real lubricity to it, plus the fact that it's a friction modifier, which means it's designed to allow a certain amount of friction.
It's more like a COOLANT than an oil.

Mark.

Hi guys i run waste oils for fuel motor oil, trans oil, hydro oil ECT... in my 94 12 valve.
I use a centrfuge to heat and clean my oil. Works very good oil comes out great.
Then filter it thru a 2 mic fuel fuelter and a 5 mic water block as it's pumped into the truck. Just to be safe. I mix it anywhere from 50% to 85% to diesel.
When cleaning/filtering any waste oil you can not get the black out. Thats why it's called Black Diesel.

i dont think i would try to keep it seperate one tank of this and one tank of that because it is still gonna get mixed your tank spliter valve is just before the tanks not on your engine. so say your are running a tank of atf and you switch to staright diesel the atf in the fuel system on the engine, filter, and lines all that is gonna go into your staight diesel tank, i have ran atf mix never could tell a diff other than it seemed weaker to me thats my two cents
