I'm referring to the blue one on the left. The yellow one is a parts motor. I've got bigger injectors for it already but I'm looking for some old school advice. I know there's old schoolers out there that've been messing with these forever.

Thanks,
Wayne

yellow ones out of some 1973 excavator, the blue ones from a 79 GMC 6000 delivery truck. I love these damn things. I also have a 76 F250 with another 4-53T Detroit (same as the blue one above) and an allison 540. :)

Is that a 6/71? I know there were truck applications with a blower as well as a turbo. I had a 85 Western Star dump truck with a 8/92 TT that was twin turboed with a blower and I had a hard time finding anyone to work on it, you need to find the grey haired guy at the truck shop and ask him I bet for a 12 pack he will tell you everything he knows about turning the screws on that detroit.

Where are you from? If you need parts or knowledge these two places can help you:
Sam Winer Motors - Engines
Engines | Adelman Companies

Awesome links man thank you.

They're 4-53Ts, the yellow is a 4-53 natural.

Here's some vids of the Ford. I'm from upstate NY btw.

We have a few in some old Oliver's, but that's as far as I go with them. I like the old things, sound cool, run awesome, and piss people off.

My engine drive Lincoln welder has a 2-71 on it, I also have a 6v-71t(for a future project), as well as a 12v-71(with the dual blowers) layin around. You just can't beat the sound of a screamin jimmy

I work on and have a bunch of old detroit stuff. Hit me up if you wanna know something or are looking for something specfic. I might be selling a lot of it.

Whereabouts in NY are you?

Sorry I haven't posted here on awhile because the thread seemed dead. I'm in duanesburg which is like 20-30 min west of Albany.

Cool project. Any updates?

I've got a 4-71 in my dually.

ARAMP I seen that damn truck on 4bt which was my original reason for even signing up there. My forum name is the same over there too, we've talked before.

I'm always looking for Detroit stuff. I'll send you a pm.

As an actual thread update I've decided not to put the 4-53t in the Chevy, I found and purchased this one instead:

It's an '81 6V53T out of a Gradall. I have an eaton-fuller RT610 i'm converting to overdrive and rebuilding to go behind it and I've also located and purchased a full jake brake setup for this motor. I haven't made any actual progress on the truck except for gutting the drivetrain out of it. Looks like this currently:

I have also rebuilt a 3053 spicer 5spd o/d to go in my ford, so once I install that and get that all done I can concentrate on this 6v53t and the chevy.

I ended up gutting that yellow motor so that I could get the good parts out of it and make room for that 6v53t I brought home. here is a pic of that chaotic night. Gutted 'er right down to the bare block only cam and balance shaft remains becuase I didn't have a socket big enough at the time. They were junk anyway.

Here's the kits and a good 4-53 head! no cracks, so that was a good score. I only paid $250 for this motor and this head alone would go for that. The crank also seemed good but I haven't mic'd it I just wrapped it up.

Here's a shot of my RT610 that's to go behind the 6v53t.
