47rh build problem

The Ppump freak
So here's what I did to the Trans
all stuff is from Garond transmission
triple disc converter
billet flex plate
Input shaft is billet
all new steels and clutches
bands anchor and apply lever
new pump
manual valve body Constant pressure locks in all four gears
all new seals and gaskets
new cooler and lines
new filter new fluid

So after all that I got it going and the first run through the gears I locked the converter in fourth gear everything was going great then the converter unlocked. So I stopped to check my wiring to my switches everything was good until I tried to go again no forward gears no reverse nothing. So I took the pan off fluid looks good no shavings in pan what could the problem be anyone know

Don't take this wrong, but are you sure you had enough fluid after filling cooler,tc, lines, etc? Depending on pressure you may need xtra fluid or filter lowered in deeper pan. Been there.

Is it necessary to overfill the trans in some situations? Reason I ask is I'm getting what sounds like pump whine in a trans I just rebuilt. People told me that's usually from a clogged filter but I just pulled than pan and there is very little debris, filter was not clogged. Any input?

Normally no, but we run an xtra qt with higher pressure. Running hard, fluid may not return fast enough. Loose or not sealed filter? I like the 727 "fuzzy" filter best. Checked pressure? Did you check, clean, rebush pump?

I'm using the yellow looking cloth filter if that's what you mean. I'm running a deep pan with the filter extension block, all seemed fine. Trans has new converter, 48re pump from goerend, (installed new bushing) and their manual vb as well. Line pressure around 200 psi max.

The whine becomes most noticeable over 3000 rpm, while driving of in park.

That's the one. Most of those extension blocks are for a 727 and put the filter against the pan in 518. Check that out.

Maybe try it without block. I have several extra deep aluminum pans and can't use full block. Cut in half works good.

If you forget to tq the pump stator support bolts and they back off, it will do similar to what you describe.

That is interesting. The deep pan and filter block are from Goerend, I've been using the block/pan for a couple years now without issue.

Pump bolts were torqued. I've never had one back off before.

Not seen Goerend stuff, but it must have gasket or o ring? If not on bottom, could it be bad seal? You say whine sound. Can't hear it from here! And don't know changes last build. Hope Firepunk didn't mind me joking. I only hear great feedback on his work. Maybe he got more thoughts? I do know that any time I've had a strange unknown noise, turnin up the stereo was a short term fix!!

Looked at your pan and spacer. Looks proper. I once installed front band billet strut upside down. It rubbed vb enuff to not release proper. Didn't hear it over straight pipes, but???

I believe the strut is installed the right way. Flat side faces vb correct? I'm running a ridged band from suncoast. I should readjust band just for giggles.
