Has anyone on here used the alternator field plug in the 6.0 harness to control the field in the Cummins alternator? I planned on using an external voltage regulator but as it turns out the oem plug is right by my alt, and would be terribly easy to crimp on two round terminals and bolt it up

Will the 6.0 harness give the alternator field voltage if it knows the 6.0 isn't there? I would suspect not, but have no evidence either way.

lets say, hypothetically speaking, that the pcm wouldnt know the difference in the 5.9 and the 6.0. Would it control the field? I assume i'll have to wait till the cab is bolted back down so I can hook everything back up and try it. Would just be easier to do now vs later.

Are you sure the PCM is controlling the field voltage. I havent looked real close at the wiring but the few I have worked on are all internal regulated.
