2003 duramax problem

I am looking at buying a 2003 duramax that has 124k miles on it. The guy said it ran out of fuel and he put diesel in it and put air in the tank to prime it back up. He said when it crunk up it revved way up for about 5 seconds then shut off and now it spins over really sluggish almost like it is hydro locked. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of a duramax doing this before? He said it didn't knock or anything when it cutoff it just shutoff. Any ideas would be great. Im going to pull the glow plugs when i get it monday to see if it has fuel in the cylinders. There is no fuel smell in the oil at all and its never had a programmer on it. It is 100% stock. Thanks

Ill let you know after i get the engine pulled. I know it had fuel and oil and water come out of atleast one of the cylinders. I could spin the engine over with the ratchet and you could hear fluid gurgling in the driver side cylinders.
