5th gear gone on my nv4500

My fifth gear left the country on my truck with the nv4500. Im assuming the nut backed off. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to do this repair? What is the best way to prevent future issues? How much can I expect to pay for a shop to fix it? Thanks.

not hard to fix remove ur dirveshats and transfer case out the drain trans case the remove the aluminum 5th gear cover and reinstall the gear if its still alive the get u a new updated nut and clean all oil off the shaft and i use loctite bearin mount and a good monkey wrench or also a air chisel if handy and tighen the crap out of it and reinstall in reverse order
